PSA seeks €600-800m compensation from GM due to Opel reliance on Ampera-e sales

Turns out Opel was relying on a minimum of 20,000 Ampera-e imported from GM USA and increasing diesel sales to get anywhere near to their CO2 fleet emissions targets.

With the Ampera-e sales Opel's plan had them overshooting 2020 CO2 targets by 3.7 grams, without the Ampera-e that could be as much as 10 grams (with would incur annual fines of ~€950m).
The Ampera-e has effectively been withdrawn from the EU market due to the invoice price being charged by GM (requiring PSA/Opel to sell the car at a €10k loss) and GM prioritising production for Chevy.

Opel apparently had no EV or PHEV in development.
During negotiations PSA was required to submit all due diligence requests to GM USA and was barred from talking directly to Opel staff.

So what plans do PSA have for EVs and PHEVs? Nothing?

I never understood that deal honestly. And it seems the Yanks did screw the French big time...

PSA have a few PHEV platforms in development. One is coming to market under the Opel brand with the Grandland X PHEV. They also have an EV platform in development which in the scramble to salvage something from Opel will be used for an electric Corsa... But it's not a competitive platform... And gods know where PSA is going to get battery supply

Because my company car scheme incentives depends on CO2 emissions and Opel have the lowest discounts I always checked out their cars.
Their engines have atrocious emissions. GM invested nothing in engines for decades.
Their cheap volume sellers have hugely inefficient engines and poor gearboxes.

The only good petrol they've got is the 1 litre fully balanced SGE engine which GM retain ownership of along with the Chinese and for which they have to pay through the nose in Opel cars.

PSA as a stop gap are going to put their efficient three cylinder engines in to their current Opel models as soon as they can but it is not going to get them down to 95g/km
