    ....for kids under 5

Up to today free travel was given to kids under 4 on all public transport.
This will be extended to those under 5.

    A bargain for me with 2 kids....one under 5!

Children under 5 Travel for Free

From this Friday, 1st December, all children under the age of 5 will be able to travel for free on all publicly-funded services. These services include Bus reann (excluding Expressway), Luas, Irish Rail and Dublin Bus*.
The cost of travel for young families can be high. The National Transport Authority is conscious of this and in an effort to make things easier for families, the NTA is now providing another year of free travel to young children by increasing the age limit to 5.
Don’t worry if you have already bought a Child Card 4 -15 for a 4 year old. You don’t have to get a refund, this will still be valid for use once your child reaches 5 years old.

*Please note that Airlink and Hop-On, Hop-Off sightseeing tours are not included.

How is this funded? By the increased charges on everyone else?

You do realise that your fares are part funded by other tax payers (assuming you even pay any tax at all...)

Ah, the ol' ad hominem argument. Classic.

    Children usually don't pay tax.

The fare increases happen all the time. Those introduced today have no relation to this.

Not really, smart arse complains that they are subsidising children under 5 (grinch much?), I mearly pointed out that their own travel is also subsided

"smart arse", "complains" and "grinch" while totally ignoring the actual question.

I see you've gone for doubling-down. True Boards fashion, mind.
