    Hi.
I'm reading a lot here about the filters on Diesels giving trouble.
How often would you need to go for a long drive to prevent this and for how long a drive?

Seriously if you have to ask those questions then you don't really have proper use for one.

It's kinda like "how much cake can I eat if I go to the gym twice a week"

I was thinking about Diesel the Guy in the dealership wasn't very helpful he said take it for a long spin now and again and it will be fine.Im not too well up on all this that's why I'm asking. Obviously I walked away from the Dealership.

What kind of driving would you mostly be doing?

M50. Monday - Friday. Early morning drive so rarely stuck in traffic. Spin to vist Family every 3 weeks or so about a 80 mile drive.

Id say if you are not doing too much stop start driving you will be fine with a diesel.

Not trying to be smart but isn't that what this forum is for? To ask questions that are motoring related?

In fairness to the op there is a misconception that a long drive is needed to prevent dpf failures or dpf blockages on a modern diesel. This just isn't true. A short drive on an open road is going to be a lot better for the dpf than a long drive with traffic added to the mix.

The op just wants a bit of information not smart answers.

I may have been a bit blunt with my answer but it's a regular question that gets asked here and I'm still of the opinion that if you have to enquire about what way a diesel needs to be driven to justify a purchase then chances are your current driving style upto now doesn't.

Going by the further details given by the OP I'd say a hybrid would be more suitable and certainly less of a risk.
