Myson Actuator + IMIT Thermostat issues prior to Hive install

    Hi,

I wonder if someone can help with this, I am getting a Hive fitted next week and have been trying to actually fix my current setup prior to this.

My setup in the house consist of a Boiler with a timer next to it then there is an Myson Actuator valve/motor in the Attic with a IMIT TA2 Thermostats near by in hallway.

The Timer works fine. The Myson has never been connected to the Valve head - valve head is permanently in the open position of course. The Myson has a light on it always - even with Boiler fuse removed - and its connection consist only of 2 wires (some are cut and unused)

The IMIT thermostat does not seem to be operating the Myson at all as moving the dial I get a click but no action from the motor. I therefore was adivse to buy a new Myson - I did this today, bought a Myson 2port 222 which has 4 wires.

I havent installed it yet but now my attention turns to the Thermostat - I checked the Live (brown) wires going to it and no matter if dial clicks in one direction or another then I still have 220Volts between the 2X live and the Neutral (blue).

I cant get my head around this and fear that if I dont fix this the Hive installer wont be able to perform Hive install (which Im not sure what that install actually does, timer or thermostat replacement)

Any help would be greatly apreciated! Thanks.

EDIT: Also bought new Thermostat now and its looking as if the Actuator + Thermostat setup is just a room control temperature thing and not linked to Boiler at all and therefore not relevant to Hive, am I correct in this assertion?

Hive will replace the timer, and the thermostat will be removed as no longer required (Hive has it's own wireless thermostat)

If the live feed to the thermostat/actuator is fed from behind the timer (find it there most times) then the hive should be installed as below:

Dual channel hive receiver, Hot Water on CH3, Actuator on CH4.
    Loop out the existing thermostat.
Set the Hive receiver into 'Gravity Mode' (press and hold the Hot Water button for 10-12seconds until the green indicator light turns blue)

The way your system will the work is:
Hot Water, calls the boiler on, and you get the open flow to the cylinder circuit
Central Heating, in gravity mode calls both Hot Water and Central Heating on via the Hive thermostat temperature.

You will then have a separate timer for Hot Water only.

As per the plumbing set up of such a system, you have no way to have the central heating on without the hot water.

    Hi, thanks!

The thing that puzzle me is the Myson Actuator, it only has 2 wires connected - that cant switch off boiler or be linked to timer then can it?

Shame I just bought the thermostat for €25 (think I paid more than I should have...)

    Thanks again,

Just a follow-up on this, I replaced the Myson Actuator and the valve works now as well as the Thermostat (didnt need to replace)

Yes, essentially your system is not correctly wired (as an s-plan) if it was, there would be 2x motorised valves, and both would have the grey and orange wires used to cal the boiler for heat. A very irish thing the way it's in your house i'm afraid.

And in terms of getting this done the right way, a big job or a matter of 2 wires back to boiler?

Also just tonight - so few 1.5 day after fitting the myson actuator - we are hearing big vibration noises coming from attic, I checked and its not the myson as its still working correctly. Have not been able to lacate exactly as it comes and goes only for seconds at the time... Heat is off in house too ... any idea?

    Another update:

    - The noise was unrelated
    - Hive install did not go ahead due to Boiler Timer to close to kitchen cabinet, electrician to move it before installer comes again :(
