Conflict of interests search

Just wondering does anyone know how long it usually takes for a solicitor to do a search regarding conflict of interest?

Basically a situation at work and it's a complicated issue regarding rights about being asked to move on where there's no lease.

So we contacted a recommended solicitor and he said he would have to do a search for two other parties involved to ensure no conflict of interest before he could take on our case.

Fast forward 3 weeks and we've still heard nothing back. Rang again twice in last few days for update only to be told he's ina meeting and will ring back etc...

I'm inclined to think he's taking the pee a bit here but before I ring again I want to ask generally how long does it take to check into this kind of thing?

Obviously I don't want to pester him, but how can it take so long to ring back and say no conflict?
Or is it standard for it to take so long?
