What's the deal with European cars imported from Japan? Do they get proper underbody/weather protection before being imported into japan? Or are they like JDM with none?

    Thanks

Unable to answer your question however can I add that 99% of JDM cars imported will be 100% cleaner under neath and rust free compared to a similar age car here. You can get them under sealed yourself safe innthe knowledge that the underside is corrosion free and will remain that way if properly under sealed.

Are they really done without underbody protection? Seems strange to me, surely they come with some. It's not like they don't have some nasty weather in Japan too.

European cars for the JDM would probably be under sealed the same as cars for Europe.

To my knowledge they don’t salt the roads in Japan except in the mountains. In urban areas I think they have some sort of irrigation system that prevents ice, and they use chains.

I sold a 25 year old CRX a few years back. The buyer stripped it back to do a restore job on it. Said there was feck all rust underneath. I think the stories of rusty JDM's are a myth spread by the motor industry.

It’s not a myth. It goes back to the 70’s and early 80’s when Japanese cars started being sold here and were renowned for rust. Cars would rot long before engines gave up.

That’s no longer the case and JDM cars have a certain amount of underseal on them from the factory. I have owned numerous JDM cars and never had any of them undersealed and never had any problems with corrosion.

The whole JDM imports suffer from rust is bullshít probably spread by SIMI and irish Motor dealers trying to persuade the public buy their cars.

You can be sure there's a lot of Jap cars here that are fairly rusty at this stage. The last Jap Toyota I bought for breaking was absolutely rotten

There's plenty of old 80's/90's JDM cars bought that are rusted quite badly. I think anytime the Mighty Car Mods guys go to the Japan the car is rusty...

But there are considerably more 80’s/90’s JDM cars on the roads than irish cars as the irish/UK cars have rotted away years ago.
