I’m wondering is there any point in having one if I can’t use the footage.

A mate said footage can only be used in extreme cases as there are privacy laws

It has been asked a few times before www.google.ie/search?q=Dashcam+court+site:.ie+site:www.boards.ie

If you have a dashcam it will probably be more for telling another driver they are on camera, or by an insurance company to help settle a dispute. Most cases never go to court.

And can CCTV from shop around the corner be used in court? Yes, as the dash-cam footage can.

Regarding privacy, you are allowed to film in (from) a public place but not from somewhere private unless you have permission.

If you are recording a conversation you should advise the other party.

Its dashcams/CCTV that is assisting at present in Insurer successfully defending cases.

Not true, only one party needs to know i.e. you

    Not true

Once you are in the conversation you can audio record covertly. I.e. you + others are talking

The court would decide if it was admissable.
