Rental Accommodation Question

    A couple of weeks ago I signed a lease on apartment and paid a booking deposit to the lettings agent (500euro - not the full security deposit). The apartment is in a rental pressure zone. The following day, the letting agent contacted me (having been contacted by the owner) as the owner wanted to pass on the 2000 euro a year management fee.

    Is the landlord entitled to "cancel" this lease? Do I have any form of recourse if they decide not to go ahead with the agreement? I have not yet received a set of keys.

    Morally its wrong and the €2000 would be likely to be held part of the rental calculation for the RPZ. In that sense they would be breaching the RTA. But no method exists for a non-tenant to pursue unlawful increases.

    Whether the lease is binding or not, you need a solicitor, but offhand on the information above, no.

    However, sometimes the press love stories like this.
