    Ok so here is suitation.

Loaned my e39 530d to other half as I am laid up at the moment. She drives a 2007 Nissan tiida and now she wants rid of the tiida because of her experience of the bmw.Says it feels like a piece of junk and see feels it's unsafe compared to e39.

What would be a entry level premium feel car be for her ?

    Was thinking a 318i 2007 ?

    Any advice ?

Even cars in the same segment as the Tiida can feel miles better.

Volvo s40 petrol may suit. Can be gotten cheap enough and have a lovely premium feel but not much bigger than a tiida.

Where do you work?! I have a d5 s60. Its a 2006 and auto. Lovely car but heavy on fuel and the auto boxes are an Aisin Warner box. They are used across the a lot of cars like opel and saab and tend to be reliable. Only problem is Volvo made them a sealed for life unit and it is seriously expensive to change the oil and you can actually cause them to shoite themselves if you do change the oil.

My 3rd gear is slipping and can sometimes bang quite violently into gear if accelerating hard but I drive it gently so I hope to get more life out of it yet. A gearbox oil change needs about 12 litres of oil and its fussy on what oil it takes so you're looking at about 20 euro a litre and a high risk of the gearbox being worse after.

Parts can be quite dear and tend to be dealer only. I've put an engine mount into mine, the heavy engine wears them quickly which was a 130 plus labour, an ABS ring which was 60 plus fitting (most other cars this can be gad for a fraction) and I am currently waiting for a new ignition barrell which is about 250 plus coding and fitting if new. I have a used one ordered so fingers crossed. The usual consumables such as tyres go fast on the front as its such a front heavy car. I had new discs and pads recently and they hit nearly 300 euro. Would I recommend one, absolutely but be aware they can be dear enough to run.

You gave her an e39 which was your first mistake ! Very little will feel as solid to be honest. Miss my ones I'm in an e60 now it's just not quite as good, but it is still good.

If she doesn't want anything as big as a 5 series then I suppose a 318i or 320d would be a good place to start.
