Hi I have just started a job where I will be doing around 40k KM's per annum. I'm looking for recommendations for a used car from 2013 onwards which is economical (diesel), can accommodate a tall person, not a SUV. I'm open to a Hatchback, Saloon or Estate. Not hung up about any brands with the exception of Renault which I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. I'm looking to buy in Jan/Feb and the budget will be around 16k.

40k a year in an EV with the charging system currently in place are you off your head, someone doing big milage doesn't need that kind of grief.

I'd be looking at 330d/530d with that milage for pure driving comfort alone. It will eat the miles.

Volvo v40/s60 may suit if you are after comfort and toys. And you will have relatively newer car comparing to BMW/Merc/Audi etc.

You will be a long time waiting for a Tesla 3 to be within the OP's 16k budget.

    Hi there,

If you're entertaining normal (ie not luxury) cars then
Leon diesel estates are very good value second hand and are very comfortable motorway cruisers. You should get a 152/161 for 16kish

Tesla 3 err you'd need to multiply that 16k I have by 7 at least !!!!

Thanks all you have mentioned a lot of the cars I am looking at. I've been cleared for finance so I am on the hunt now :)

I second the volvos, you're going to spend some time in it so might as well get a comfy one, I'd go for the S60 myself, in D5 form (awesome engine), the D4/D3 might also be an option, less grunt but should still be able to pull the car around nicely, stay clear of the D2 (only 1.6L and not necessarily reliable PSA engine, at least until 2015).

I do 60,000km/annum in my i3. But yeah, the comfortable EV options for that mileage would be out the OPs budget. At least €23k+.
Worth considering though given the running cost advantage would make up the difference vs a €15k diesel inside 24 months.
