Tyre pressure problem

I've been getting a tyre pressure light come on in the car (Hyundai i20) every 2-3 weeks, and when I go to put air in, the two back and one front are always down 1, maybe 2. The other at the front is often down 3-4, so I assume this one is the problem. Light is now on again, 8 days after last putting air in. Is there anything I can check myself (know nothing about cars) or should I take it somewhere to be looked at? And do I go to any tyre place, or to the dealer (only bought car in July)?
    Thanks.

Could be a faulty or damaged tyre pressure sensor. Seems to be common on hyundais of that vintage.

Sound like very slow puncher so bring it to the tyre shop and ask them to check for this.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think in this case it's a faulty sensor as the tyres are down a bit when I go check them, if that makes sense. I will watch out for that though.

Just back from putting air in again, the three "good" ones are down 2, and the bad one was down 5, so I'll go get it checked out. But does 2 sound a lot to be down in just over a week? I don't ever remember putting air in tyres of past cars this often.

Yeah it may be puncture. After I got one repaired the light was still coming however. I pumped it up to 40 PSI, started the car, the light didn't come on, and then reduced the pressure to the correct pressure, and its been fine since

That's good to know, thanks for the information.

I wouldn't imagine its a sensor if the tyres are loosing pressure!

Get it checked for slow puncture's and make sure they check the valves, they often crack at the bottom.

    Good luck.

Do you have the sensors on the valves themselves, i.e. Are the valves metal or rubber?

According to Autodata, the i20 has individual TPMS sensors fitted to each wheel, here's the system resetting procedure in attached picture:

To OP, you have either a slow leak at the valves themselves, a very small nail or screw in each of the tyres affected or a bad seat between the tyre and the rim or a combination of all 3. A good tyre shop can investigate it for you and put it right.

put some very thick soapy water on the valve caps and see if you get bubbles , if so = bad valve
easy to fix with a valve removal tool and new valve piece = total 10 euro for tool and 4 valves in a good factors .

assuming they arent active monitor valves - not sure if you can fix them .

The ones on the mothers i30 gave trouble, the aluminium reacts with the steel valve cap and corrodes.

    1. Slow puncture

    2. Damaged valve

    3. Small gap between rim and tyre

Usually soapy water will identify the issue. The hole can be absolutely tiny.... so it's a case of the tyre fitter keeping his eyes peeled.

Simple to fix for a tyre garage.

    Atlas will check for free.

I had a similar problem with one tyre. Soapy water on the valve produced nothing. Then sprayed on the inside of the alloy and four pinprick holes turned up.

Let me know where abouts are you based, if I'm passing I'll drop by and figure out the issue.

Is there a chance that once you make a pressure change i.e. put air in any one tyre, you should then have to reset the tyre pressure sensor system?

    Not on the i30 anyway.

Thanks for all the replies. Not sure if there are individual sensors or not, it's just a light comes on in the car (sorry to sound thick!). The valves seen to be rubber, but I wouldn't swear to it. It's a 2015 model if that tells you anything! I'm off work Friday so I'll take it to a tyre place to investigate.

Thanks for your very kind offer but I'm sure I'm miles away from you, I'm in Waterford :)
