Trying to speak to Eir customer service online and have been waiting for 30 minutes so far.
This is some of my text us
Hello! Next available customer representative will be with you shortly.
You[7:49:09 AM] I need broadband at home. I had to change from Meteor to Vodaphone as Eir stopped sharing mast and i had NO signal. I tried Vodaphone landline but sometimes speed was .02 and unable to download. this was about 20 months ago. have you improved broadband, I am about 1.5 miles from Newcastle, Tipperary
You[7:53:11 AM] Just checked my address and it said speeds up to 10mb from my home. I had better internet in a hut on the beach in India 9 years ago. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO IMPROVE BROADBAND HERE?
You[7:54:37 AM] -mod snip- I will copy my text and put it on Boards or Facebook and maybe someone can answer
Eir advertise 100mb but in my area its up to 10mb. I have to use Dongle from Vodaphone but would prefer the phone line in and fibre broadband and I want to know when is this going to happen? I am 63, am I asking too much

If it says up to 10Mbps then you'd probably be doing well to get somewhere between 3 and 6 in reality. The tragic fact is that, despite Government hype around improving the country''s infrastructure, the provision of broadband outside of main centres is patchy and future meaningfully uaeful service is dependent on whether you will be supplied within the National Broadband Plan, whenever that happens.

Not terribly helpful/hopeful I know, but large tracts of rural Ireland are in a similar or worse position.

Outside of VDSL range. ADSL2+ available. 10Mb makes sense for a bit longer than you've described (about 2.6KM).

No rural FTTH. Take it over leave it. There are some cons to living in rural Tipp.

They put fibre broadband in Clonmel in 2004, i had business in town then but 13 years later and 10 miles out I still have little speed and therefore no landline. At 63 i would like landline. Spent another hour on the phone at 5, eventually got through to waiting but gave up after 40 mins at 6pm. How can i go higher and get an answer?
    Thanks for your comments TomonBoard

I'd say you're on a hiding to nothing trying to get an answer from Eir as to when you will get a better service than 10Mbps. If you don't have a service from them already they don't have any obligation to provide you with anything, and you'll only annoy yourself in the process of trying to get them to engage on it. If they're saying you can get up to 10Mbps with their infrastructure that's all you can hope for for now in terms of fixed broadband.

Just a point in relation to having already had a landline based service from Vodafone 20 months ago- that would have been using the Eir lines, so unless Eir have improved their infrastructure around you in the meantime, I can't see you getting much/any better by joining Eir now.

Have you checked to see if your actual location is included in the NBP? That would give you an idea of what might be possible if the NBP ever does become a reality.

    How?
Unless you live in a submarine at the bottom of a lake, either you have/will have a fast BB in 2 - 3 years or you are in NBP area.
So everybody in Ireland will have a fast broadband in some stage, and I am nearly sure that will happen during this century

Your EIR bill should be link to speed of broadband, and I would like a landline for family abroad.
I know....I'm dreaming. But I did have fibre broadband in Clonmel 13 years ago and I only live 10 miles away.

Until that becomes reality, there might be other services in your area that could do for now - check here. Seems like there are a number of wireless providers covering Tipp. While not ideal, hopefully better than the mobile dongle you had before.

I'm curious to know what this service was in Clonmel, was it ADSL/ISDN*many connection or a business complex with fiber to the site or something else?

Not 'up to date' with terms etc but as I rented property in Clonmel I know, back in 2000 we did have ISDN, not sure if thats correct initials but similar. Then, because of all the Industry here Clonmel was one of the first towns to get Fibre Broadband. I opened Suds n Surf in 2004 and it was a Launderette and Internet Cafe and internet speed was great.
I looked on map and where I live is AMBER so not going to get it here anytime soon. Eir used to share the mast out here but when they changed I had no 3G or 4G so had to change to Vodafone.
I use the Vodafone 'dongle' and speeds not bad, 6.79mb and 13.5 upload, but sometimes it takes a while to log on.
Guess I will just have to go without the landline as its an expensive luxury without the broadband.
    Thanks for your help
    Rachel

True. When I look into my internet connection I am not so happy, but when I look outside the window I am.

By law are eir required to put a phone line into new builds? I just got an sms from them with a reference number for my new build house with a view to getting a phone line installed after a long conversation to a sales guy last week. I want the phone line installed so that I can get Sky broadband or alternative. How do I get eir to install line without being billed and being stuck on a year long contract with them? Any ideas?

Technically no, they have to give you AFL which now includes the option for just a mobile phone thats not mobile. In most cases they will give a real line though.

If you order Sky TV they'll order a new line provide on your behalf. Their sales guys are kinda clueless doing it though.

    Thanks ED,

Have been down that avenue weeks ago. Skypeomised broadband install then renaged via sms a few weeks later. Can’t do anything until eir put line in, builder has ran in the mouse line ready for install. Any other ideas?

You'll never get the full whack when you have "up to 10mb" or something similar. If its drastically lower then definitely ask them to look into it, but its tough to get them to do anything about it.

I can't get broadband without an eircode even though I live in Cork City Centre. I have a landline. All around me people have 100mBs broadband. And I can't get it :-(((((

Can anyone in eir really help at all? To date spoke to Mick, Tony, Sebe, Donna, Lisa, Sandra, Theo, Obvan, Joanna, Aason, Oat, Robert, every single one of them is a liar and incompetent. I say that without fear of retribution because they all lied to me after hours and hours on hold

Please don't resurrect threads, that are nearly a year old. Read the charter, then start a new thread or read/post in the larger threads that deal with VDSL/FTTC and FTTH. The ones that are active. Not the ones that haven't been posted in since 2017.
