    Morning all,
I'm looking for some advice please. I got my father in law for Kris Kindle and as he is golf mad I would like to get him something golf related. Our limit is €50 but can go a bit higher. Would anyone have any ideas?

Good brand of golf balls! 12 Titleist pro v's be about €50 or the taylormade TP5's you cant go wrong as he probably has most golf equipment and I'd be chuffed if I received them.

Does he play much winter golf? A good pair of branded mittens would be my choice. I'd be delighted with them the last few days.

I wouldn't get Pro Vs this time of the year. Balls plugging left right and centre. They'll all be lost within a couple of weeks.

Get him a voucher for sure

In fairness, every ball is plugging this weather.

The €85 Stay & Play 2 Offer here is a cracker.

I'd echo above suggestions and go with a box of ProV balls (Probably get the ProV1x version). McGuirks currently have a Cyber Monday sale so 15% off everything making a box of ProVs come in at €38 which is a good price.

Add in a pair of winter mitts or a beanie to bring it over €50 and you'll have a happy camper.

As mentioned above, Pro V golf balls are a good shout. I'm pretty sure with titleist balls at the moment you can get free customisation of them.

So you could get him a box of them with his name monogrammed on, or something to that effect?

Assuming he's a member of a club, you could ring their pro shop & probably get a deal from his pro for a couple of golf lessons. He'd likely get more value out of that then golf balls

You can't really beat a nice golf polo too. Should be able to get a nice Under Armour, Nike, Adidas or something for €50.

A dozen Pro V1s, but make sure they are the 2017 version.

is there much of a difference? how do you actually tell if they're the 2017 version?

Well the packaging will tell you:

    2017 Packaging:

    And the 2015/16 packaging:

More consistent flight is the main caharacteristic that's claimed for the new ball. Apparently the mould construction is more accurate.

I know that, but for the cost of Pro Vs it's not nice losing them to a good shot.

They deviate about four inches less when worked and my mid-iron trajectory has dropped by at least a foot. They've also changed the ink on them.....

Joking aside, they have prov1s (2017 model) in McGuirks online with free personalisation for €44.95 and another 15% off if you buy today, so €38. Promo code: cyber2017. You can get any message up to 3 lines printed on the ball.

Throw in something small with it and the delivery is free (when you spend €50)

What handicap is this guy. If he is off 22 what is the point in brand new pro v's?

Its a present who wouldn't be chuffed with a box of premium golf balls! he doesnt have to use them in winter either! I stock pile all mine during winter and just use finds and cheap balls until summer arrives..

Voucher is the safest option, what if he doesn't like pro v 1's, I don't.

Also a few lessons is also a decent option, but voucher allows him to get what he wants.

I think if he is a good golfer, low teens handicap down then pro vs are a good option but if he is any higher then pro vs are not a good idea.

Also as someone else says he might not even play them, many prefer chrome or even tm.

listen this is getting blown out of proportion high hcer or not if I received a pack of pro v's or any premium ball for that matter i'd be chuffed and i'm a middle of the road handicapper now :D
its much better than getting a dozen dunlops! it shows you care ;)

    disagree

i never played premium balls until recently or unless they were found. mind you I would never play dunlops either

but i would have always got 3 dozen mid range balls such as the srixon ad333's for the same price as a dozen pro v's and really and truely unless you are a very good single digit handicapper, you will most likely never notice the difference.

eveyone has an opinion of course, doesn't make any of them right or wrong

did you not know anyway that there are magnetic fields in new pro v's that means 9 times out of 20 they will be sucked towards water and gorse in the first couple of holes in play :D

That explains a lot so.. its not just me :D

I agree I wouldn't notice much of a difference myself but it is nice to play with a half decent ball.. Definity notice a difference though in the cheap balls which I usual get as presents! There like streamers after 1 hit with the driver.... :pac:
