    Hi all

I'm wondering if anyone knows the locations of any dog parks/free-run areas in Dublin or Kildare parks.

I'm not lazy, I have done a google search https://lovindublin.com/dublin/9-places-you-can-walk-your-dog-off-lead-in-dublin
But I'm just wondering if there are even more locations out there

Also, what are people's experiences of using these if you have done so?

    thank you

Edit: I should mention that I am looking for fenced-in areas. Looking to give my dog a good run without having to worry about her poor recall (will be training her, but in the interim)

Most DCC parks are off lead until 11 and last hour before closing.

EDIT - oh sorry do you only want parks with dog pens? My experience of the one in st Anne's is that it's for dogs who are allowed run amok while their owners drink coffee and play with their phones! One of the happiest days of my life was seeing the new poo bin to the left of it which means I don't have to walk in front of it anymore lol to deposit our poo bags :p.

St Catherine’s Park in Leixlip has an enclosed dog park, lovely walks around there too.

Haven't used any, but have seen them in Cabinteely and Shanganagh; a few others mentioned here also https://www.woofadvisor.com/blog/leash-free-dog-parks-in-dublin/

    Which area of Dublin?
I think they are building now more fenced areas..

I know since long of St Catherine's Park and St Anne's park (been only to the first, and it's quite nice and usually nice dogs).
I know Marlay Park southside and Corgah park (not sure about the spelling, sorry)
In Blanchardstown there is a small one near the shopping centre (millennium park), small and not often dogs in there and a new one in Harststown Park Dublin 15

Another option would be to attach long so you can rein her back in if you need to. There's nothing better than parking, opening the door and bringing the dogs for a walk off lead - safe in the knowledge that they'll stick with you and come back to have their leads put on when you ask!

    Thanks all.

I'm getting my first dog soon - it will be a whippet and will need off-leash time. I don't want to give it to her out of a pen until I have her well trained enough - their recall isn't good and they are speedy things, so I need to know I can trust her before I let her off. But, in the meantime she will need some release.

My worry with the fenced areas is just as was mentioned - lots of dogs let loose with the owners not watching them. I live close to Celbridge so all the above named places are fine for me to travel to.

If the fenced areas are very busy at certain times, I may have to consider going out to them really early at the weekends (like, 6am on a Sunday kind of thing) when there would be less traffic.

A very very very very long lead is also an option. Online forums I've read (mostly American) recommend one of these!! https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/weaver-leather-flat-cotton-lunge-line-1-in-x-30-ft-with-snap

6am is a bit OTT lol - the parks may be locked as it’s winter and dark until around 7:45am ;) you do still need to socialise her so you still want some dog traffic - just not necessarily free for all dog pen traffic. Positive dog training in sandyford do social hour for puppies which is great. Make sure whatever line you choose isn’t too long that you can’t pull the her in quickly if it’s in danger or isn’t a pain getting wrapped around things.

Thank you, that's helpful advice. Yeah, there is a one-hour socialisation class in Enfield I was looking into as it's close to us, but if it's not that great I will look at Sandyford.

Also good point about lead - I will have a look around to see what the longest retractable one is that I can find.

If using a long line, please make sure you use a harness, not a collar, there can be a huge 'snap' effect if the dog runs to the end of the line.

This is the long line I use for Bailey on longer walks where he's still restricted in spots - I have it 4 years! Great to see a seller still going after years and years :) My friend got one recently after borrowing ours.

Personally I never had bad experiences in dog parks, but of course not all people are the same and not every dog is ok in them.

I started going less and less because my adult dogs don't really like attention from other dogs.. but they have never been attacked.
The two I mentioned in blanchardstown in this period are almost always empty!

I have two foster puppies at the moment and I can't wait to bring them to the dog area to get a bit tired a do some socialization work!

one of my dogs can't be trusted off leads ( the eldest) so she is always on a harness and a very long line
I got my line from zoo plus years ago and it is something like this one

    http://www.zooplus.ie/shop/dogs/dog_collars_dog_leads/nylon_leads/448612

Means she gets to run around with the others but I can catch her when she takes off for the hills

There are plans for a dog park in Monread area of Naas

Corkagh Park in Clondalkin, close enough to Celbridge, has a secure dog zone

Heres a list you mightnt have come across:

I think that depends on your definition of secure. Corkagh Park dog area has a 5 bar gate in it, with a gap underneath and easy for an agile dog to jump over, with loads of rabbits just outside it. Such a shame, I guess they put it in to allow them to drive a ride on mower in.

There's fenced in dog run in Tymon Park, near the Limekiln Road/Kippure Avenue junction entrance.

JUST wondering, is this near the gate with the carpark on that road?

Yes, if you go in through the car park and turn right, it's along there on the left-hand side.
