    NOTE: MOVED FROM CLIMOTE THREAD

    Hi Guys

Well done on the great information.

I need a bit of help from an expert !!

My house has four zones, two for downstairs heating, one for upstairs heating and one for hot water. I just replaced the a very old oil boiler with a new Grant system. I now need to get some new controls installed. The plumber who installed the boiler is not very helpful. He says the controls are the job of an electrician but he did arrange for the stats to be hardwired from the boiler house
to a place on the wall inside the house using two special cables. I dont know why two cables are necessary.

As far as i understand it I need a control unit on the wall inside the house that is hardwired to the stats in the boiler house and I then need wireless room thermostats in each of the zones to communicate with the controller. Obviously
I want to be able to control all of this using my iphone.

Whats the best system for me. I looked at Nest but Nest doesnt seem to be able to deal with multi zones very well . I looked at Heatmiser but from what I can gather the room stats need to be wired rather than wireless. I looked at Climote
but cant seem to get clear information regarding the wireless room stats and theey seem to talk about three zones instead of four.

    Many thanks for any help.

Lots of different options available to you.

One of the most comprehensive for you would be Tado or maybe Netatmo.

Either of these would be a simple replacement of your current three thermostats on the wall, simple DIY job, though then the thermostats wouldn't be wireless and wouldn't control the hot water, you could leave your current controller continue to control that independently.

Optionally, Netatmo comes with relays which could be powered from the boiler and placed wirelessly around your home, however still can't control hot water and would likely require an electrician to wire up.

Tado, can also be optionally made wireless, but requires a separate purchase of the extension unit and in your case you would three extension units, would get expensive. One upside the extension units allow you to control hot water. One option would be to buy just one extension unit to make one thermostat wireless and give you hot water control, but have two wired to the wall. Again probably need to get an electrician out to do this.

Both of these can be controlled from your iphone or also by voice from Google Home/Amazon Echo/Apple Siri.

BTW a lot of this gets discussed over in the Home Automation forum. Lots of threads about smart controls there.

Climote does come with wireless room stats from Electric Ireland - you just need to ask the installer when hes putting them in. They are very easy to pair with the Climote unit. The Climote unit itself has an inbuilt stat within it so you may only need one wireless that (if the climote is installed in the room where you want to read temp like kitchen).

    Climote has ongoing Subscription

I have Honeywell Evohome and I think it is Great its Designed as a Heating Control System and works Brilliantly Bit Expensive but Well Worth it

climote has an ongoing subscription, when no other smart thermostat does and they have no integration with Google Home, Alexa, Siri or IFTTT like most others do. I'm not sure why anyone would go with Climote.

Evohome also does multi zone without having to change piping which could be a factor also intregrates with Amazon Alexa and Conrad Connect

In your Case an Evohome Controller and 3 Zone Valve Relays (BDR91) 3 Wireless Stats (Y87RF2024 or DTS92) one for each heating Zone and a Hot Water Kit (atf500dhw)

This will give you full App Control over all Zones and Hot water and is a great system

EPH Ember solution might also be an option.
It has quite a nice app and can handle up to three heating zones and hot water.
