Looking to book my nct but it will be a friend taking it in for me. I need to use my debit card to book online, will they also need the same debit card to be presented on the day? Pretty sure last time I did it the asked me for the card I booked with at the test centre?

No you won't need the card. Not sure how exactly it's done but when you or your friend shows up for the test the payment goes through on the card you booked with, without having to produce said card.
I showed up for a test hoping to pay with another card but he had already put through the payment before I mentioned using a different card.

Nah your friend won't need the same card but will need the log book and some form of ID such as passport or drivers licence.

If paying with cash let them know first thing. They still take cash but default payment is the card used for booking.

i brought cash, but they said they had to use the cc i booked with. i was surprised. i dont see a way of making a booking without using a cc. so for all intents and purposes, no more cash?

yeah i handed in the documents, she didnt say a thing, and then when i said can i pay with cash, she said too late. i hadnt paid the cc bill and was afraid it wouldnt go through, but it did. but maybe they should at least ask how would i like to pay when i got there?

think you pretty much agree to the payment when making the booking. Pity they don't just accept the payment at time of booking or have the option for cash on day of test.

I was getting a retest yesterday and a person ahead of me paid cash. Must be an option to pay with cash when booking by phone or email.

I've paid cash before. I just make sure it's one of the first things I give them ahead of documents. Make sure they are aware you want to pay cash and usually it's good.

If you book online a pre authorisation is placed on the card at the time of the booking which becomes active when you go in for the test. You can tell them not to use the card tho and just give them cash. Iv done it that way before.

Just to clarify, the ID presented has to be photo ID, driving licence or Passport preferred, but the photo is the important bit now.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
