DELL Laptop - Plugged in, not charging error message

I have a DELL Inspiron 5558 laptop thats just 2 years old. Since Friday, I am getting an error message for the battery - plugged in, not charging.
I have taken the battery out and cleaned it. The laptop works when plugged in so the charger must be working ok.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the battery in device manager. Any other recommendations? The battery was giving 4-5 hours use before Friday so its not like it was dying quickly

I had this issue with a dell before. it can be hard to figure out what the issue is from my research.
most likely probably something to do with the charging brick.
I was able to solve it by weirdly altering the way that I put the end of the charging wire into the port on the laptop. just as I put it in bend it back a bit (the bit just after the connector part). not saying that it will solve it for you but worked for me. for me seems to be related to the initial connection to the laptop. give it a go. try it several / many times and see if the power indicator is saying charging.
tried other recommendations about uninstalling and reinstalling the power-related things in task manager but that didn't do anything for me. last resort buy a compatible charger on ebay.

Tap F12 as the machine powers up, this should give you a menu which includes BIOS Setup. Select this and look in the battery section there and see what info it gives about your battery.

It should give the battery health and also the charger health. Looks like this.

Plugged in not charging could be a faulty charger or a damaged DC Jack, does it look ok ?

Thanks for the replies guys. I was having no luck with it so brought it into a computer repair shop. They did a full diagnostic test and then opened it up. The inside of the dc jack is a small bit damaged so he’s going to order that and see if that makes a difference. Bloody nearly 60 quid for that part alone. I’ve had a few issues with this laptop. What harm I love the laptop, just a bit disappointed with Del. Cheers for the replies

The DC Jack is a separate part and not part of the main board. 60 for the part.quid is complete BS.

The whole job is 30 mins, max 50 quid including the part.

Ok shutdown laptop pull out power lead and battery. Put back in power turn on. Go to device manager and under battery uninstall all the things related in battery. Shutdown and put battery back in. The battery will be reinstalled in system and should charge after this.

I know you said you uninstalled already but you have to remove battery before and replace after. Otherwise it will not work.

What did the BIOS say about the health of the battery/charger ?

Hi Ken. The battery is only at 6% so I was unable to run BIOS - you need a minimum of 10%. I did a Dell diagnosis and that said battery was healthy.

Just wondering if the computer shop provided Vaseline before they rode ya?

€9 for the part...open laptop, unplug old dc input...remove old dc input...fit new dc input...close laptop...it's not rocket science!

That’s only if you want to Flash the BIOS. It can be bypassed.

To run the BIOS set up this doesn’t matter. Have a look at the battery section as in my pic above. It should show battery condition and charger wattage. If your charger is faulty and cannot be identified then the system will not charge the battery. A damaged DC Jack could also cause the charger to be unidentifiable.

Had this problem before with my Dell laptop. Have you tried a different charger? I borrowed a friends generic one and it charged no problem.
