Car is a 1.6 hdi with about 160,000km.

Got an engine fault light this morning. Car went into limo mode.

    Returned home.

Loud noise from car after stopping.

    https://youtu.be/fdOl3N94BvQ

    Car serviced in May 17.

    Any ideas?

First thing i would do is get hold of a cheap obd reader if you can and run it and see what comes up with that

Silly question When you say it was stopped was the engine switched off or just idling and making a noise.
If it was switched off and the fans etc were running after you switched off it could have been trying to do a dpf regen and
that might have caused the fault warning if the dpf is in trouble.

    Engine turned off.

Any idea where you would get an obd reader on a Sunday in Athlone or Dublin?

From Cork myself so i wouldnt have a clue maybe a regular on here can help you out and scan the car for you.

Were you on a motorway when the fault flashed up on the screen ,im no expert but i would be thinking that the car atempted a dpf regen and it failed for a reason and when you came home it was just going through the cycle and attempting to do it again did the fans cut off after about 5-6min?
If it went into limp mode perhaps the dpf is blocked or low on eolys fluid not sure if your car has that though
    I could be a 100% wrong though

There is a guy on here by the name of Row that knows his peug/citroen stuff im sure if he reads this he can guide you alot better than i can.

Didn’t read the whole post first
    Time.

Dpf is what I thought first. Car does city driving but generally gets at least 1 big blast up the motor way (2 80km plus trips last week)

Get rid of it mate and buy German or if your poor buy a ford as their cheap and reliable. best of luck

Citroën make grand cars, what happened to you could happen with any car.
The myth of volkwagon "bullet proof" is long dead... Your polo could die tomorrow.

Lol thinking German cars are good cars, those polos are well known money pits, especially if it fails nct on emissions

My experience with Citroen is that they are soft. I had a brand new C5 that gave window regulators, wiper motors, brake light switch, steering rack, EGR issues in a six year period. I moved off it onto a Honda and I have not had one issue with it.

I think they make decent engines once you look after them (service regularly) but alot of stuff around the engine is not good. I will never touch one again.

well the wife drives like most women(terrible)but i havent had an issue with polo since she has it . i also drove a VW passat for years without issue before I bought my BMW. i would recommend VW always. VW has been best selling brand of car for years here in Ireland so in my humble opinion stick with the German cars. cheers John
