I want to try our rescue yorkie mix a go at agility. Does anyone have any pointers on how to begin?

    Cheers

I’m in D8. I’ve never participated in agility with any of my dogs, but our lil’ chap seems like he would love it. Bearing in mind; I’m not terribly agile myself though;(

Nothing wrong with that, agility is actually great for building fitness in humans, too. As well as building a stronger relationship between yourself and your dog. Win-win all round. :D

John in DDT welcomes all levels. With him you pay per class so theres no commitment should it not work out.

If you have a car, I'd recommend King of Paws. And all the profit goes to the <snip> shelter, so you'd be doing something good at the same time :)

If you have a garden you could build a little agility course of your own to try him out? My daughter used all sorts for our dogs - flowerpots to zig-zag through, brush handles balanced on buckets, her old slide, a childrens tunnel from a charity shop, carboard boxes to squeeze through etc etc

That would be great; if we had a garden. I’ve kind of set up some small obstacles in our hallway out to the communal hallway to see how he would take to it. He’s kind of confused by it. But he’s gotten pretty good at some of the nose work.

There are a couple of places in the Greater Dublin area that you could look into
    As mentioned already
    Dublin Dog Training https://www.facebook.com/Dublin-Dog-Training-112078718830992/
    WTCI http://www.wtci.ie/
Doggie All Sorts in Slane https://www.facebook.com/Doggieallsorts-1377278179176092/

I have competed for the last few years and from May to Oct I am away competing most weekends, absolutely love it

totally ‘wasted the day away’ reading the articles... so thanks for that ;) Found some really interesting ideas; only I’m pretty sure our lil’ chap would eat through some of them if given half the chance.

Absolutely love listening to the Glasgow Dog Trainer!!!!

Em_cat, did you ever go to agility?

I did with Ralph. He loved it.
It was me who couldn't grasp it..

Kept turning the wrong way and getting so frustrated.

Didn't matter how many times I was shown, I'd turn the wrong way.

    Hahaha

Hehehe... Do they not lay out coloured tape for the route?

We’re working on the exercises that Anne <snip> set out to help Mr C with some of his ‘distraction’ issues & target training at the moment. We use his first toy from us, an xtra small Kong bear, so now we have like 20 or so of them dotted around, all the same...kind of creepy... it’s ‘touch the bear’ instead of look at me...

I watched the agility bits on Crufts this year & was like, ehh I gotta move faster or learn to whistle...I’m running around going whoo whoo whoo & Mr C cocks his head to the side like what’s wrong with her...
