I just put a deposit down on a new car and I didn't trade in my own car actually just plain forgot about it. It's failed nct and is 2002 toyota avensis with over 200k miles. Nct is up in two weeks has tax till end of Jan...

What to do with her? Any suggestions. After I transfer insurance off her I won't even be able to drive it and I don't want it left in my drive!

Bring it to the nearest breaker.

OK so in this case I just fill out the registration cert with details of the person if they buy and send it away? I've never sold a car before but don't want to end up with it being abandoned and me being liable for dumping!

Dont think you would get much trying to sell it with no nct,but ye could stick it on Adverts and look for a few hundred euro.

Or try sell it to the local scrap yard, ring around first and as if their interested in taking it of your hands for a few quid but to be honest they will probable tell you they dont need that model because they know if your ringing them you need to get rid of it so they may say to you that they will take it of you for noting.

One thing i would warn you about is no matter what you do with it make sure you get proof of change of ownership regardless if its through dealing with a scrapyard or just some joe soap.

Scrap yards should give you an end of life cert.

I have had issues in the past where cars i have owned have been wrote off and giving to scrap yards and a few weeks later the guards were at my door asking about why its been illegally parked for the past few days.
Turned out the scrape yard never destroyed the car and had been driving it around and the car was still in my name as they never done the paperwork to say it had been scraped,so what ever ye do make sure ye have proof ye dont own it anymore.

Rust on both sills. Tester made two holes...

    CV boot.

    Oil leak.

All fixable issues. Emissions perfect... etc

I’d nearly let the dealer take it. For all you’d get selling it it’s hardly worth the bother.

I have an offer which ill probably take.

I just need to get the buyers name address etc and fill out hte back of the vehicle cert and send it away to where-ever and that's me done? I dont have to verify whether the details given are correct or not?

The buyer details their address etc in the logbook and then YOU YOURSELF send logbook away to Shannon.
You don't need to verify buyer's details are correct.

Well if the buyer gives fake details then Shannon will just send the original logbook back to the OP afaik.

And who owns the car at that point? If it's used in a crime? This system seems very open to being abused.

The system is outdated, flawed and open to all sort of abuse.

If Shannon issue a new logbook to either a fake name at a legitimate address or a fake address then that logbook will be returned to them. My understanding is then that they will return the logbook to the previous registered owner which is you. There is a higher probability of this risk when your dealing with characters buying cheap cars.

A seller has an obligation to get the buyers details and send the completed form to Shannon, that ends their obligations. It is not a persons responsibility to ensure the details of the buyer are correct.

Ask the dealer your getting your new car from to dispose of.

You could ask for their id driving licence etc to make sure, but its not really a big deal once you have a name and address to put on the cert its out of your hands.
