Adoptable storage can it be undone?

I ordered a Nokia 5 because it has adoptable stoage and seems like a good phone.
I might buy a micro sd card for it if I need more storage as its only 16gb with half of that being taken up by the OS.
When you use a micro sd card as adoptable storage on an android phone can you format the card on the phone at a later date if you decide you want to undo it and use the micro sd card on other devices or perhaps if you wanted to upgrade to a bigger card?

Avoid using it, allot of risks associated with using it. (i.e Corrupted SDcards)

If you do use it, you have to migrate the storage back before removing/formatting the Card.

Card also has to stay constantly in the device and can not use other cards.

I think I might give it a try anyway in the future.
I'll see how I get on with the 16gb first.
It might be enough for me as I'm not that heavy a user.
Only would use Whatsapp, Viber, Youtube, Facebook and one game at a time would be fine for me.
Anyway so going back to what you were saying you can reformat later to use on another device after migration right?
That's assuming you keep the sd in your device all the time and nothing corrupts or goes wrong.
