Halfords Advanced / Pro Socket Set - replacement case?

I have an older version of the Halfords Advanced socket set (can't remember if I have the 150/170 or 200 piece version - none of the modern sets seems to exactly match the range of stuff in mine but I *think* it's the 150 piece set.

Anyway the carry case has always been a POS, and looking at the reviews it's still about the only complaint I've seen about the set. One of the plastic hinges gave up the ghost the other night, spilling the sockets all over the garden  so I'm finally looking for a replacement. I see that they sell a Drawer Tray insert for the set but since it wouldn't exactly match my set and that I'd have to buy a toolbox on top of that, I'm wondering if anyone has a better suggestion for storing these sets neatly?

Have a look at Snap on or even Teng tools. Both have lifetime warranty. Buy right buy once as they say

You can buy rails in 1/2, 3/8, 1/4 that you can snap the sockets onto. Buy them and rivet into a nice toolbox.

Halfords advanced range also have lifetime warranties

The quality is very good and more than adequate for an enthusiast or occasional DIYer

OP have you tried contacting Halfords about it ?

EDIT: Also for future reference the correct saying is buy sh!te buy twice.

I'd assumed the case would be excluded from the lifetime warranty but I've seen comments on-line that make me think it might actually be covered. Pretty sure the receipt is long gone but I'll see how I get on with them.

I'm sure it's worth investing in Snap On or Teng if you're a professional mechanic but it never fails to amuse me how any mention of the Halfords stuff always brings out someone recommending them! The Halfords stuff is perfectly adequate for the occasional user and, from what I've seen, impossible to beat in terms of value for money (assuming you buy them during one of the so frequent you'd wonder why they bother "half price" deals)

I'm nearly sure you can buy the cases separately at a reasonable price.ie around the twenty euro mark.

Had the same thing happen to mine about 5 years ago. Drilled holes through either side of both hinges, ran a length of 5mm threaded rod down both, two nuts on either end to lock it, been good ever since

I've a bluepoint 77pc socket set from new (about 3 years ago) and the clasps are absolutely rubbish. They fell to bits within months and the springs have often tried to stab me. The case is difficult to clean without removing every socket

Smashed the breaker bar once too, but got it exchanged from the loanshark snap on truck

Now don't get me wrong as they are a fantastic set and get very heavily used, but the case is crap...!

It's the tools that are quality. If you want a good box then buy a good one

Shouldn't have to though, just because the tools are top quality shouldn't they be sold within a decent case and incorporate the price instead of something I'd see as unsuitable from new?

It'd be like getting a Beretta Giubileo and firing it into some cheap case, wearing down the finish and protection faster than if it was stored properly from day one.

Which is what I'd use on the standard bluepoint case with a pair of number 8s truth be known

I think the emphasis is put on tool quality and maybe the makers feel the box will be discarded and the tools put into a tool chest or box.
I dont know nor care really.
Best of luck with it anyway

Ive had my case 9 years and it's still intact. Gotten plenty use too. You can usually buy the cases separately.
