If I am earning saying 600 gross (500 net), and my partner is applying for social welfare, does anybody understand exactly how my wages will affect her social welfare payment? Lets assume she would be making 200 of social were it not for me

    Have you any kids there?
Also, has she been working and paying PRSI and for how long.

It will depend on how many PRSI contributions she's made in the past two years, which will determine whether she's entitled to Jobseekers Benefit, which isn't household means-tested, or Jobseekers Allowance, which is.

If she has enough PRSI contributions, she will get JSB for 9 months without being means tested. If however she hasn't enough contributions she will be assessed for JSA allowance this is means tested and your income earnings are taken into consideration. Chances are she will get little or nothing on JSA in this case.

    Thanks for reply folks.

This is what I feared. We have a child I might add if that changes things.

My partner is considering telling social she lives with her mum which I am not keen on as it could come back to bit her. She d be still cohabiting there too I suppose so her mum's finances aken into consideration

How would your partner be cohabiting in two different houses?
Yes she will get caught when they come to visit her and it turns out she isn't there and doesn't live there. She'll have to pay back the money and could be taken to court for fraud.
    Very silly idea.

She wouldn’t be cohabiting with her mother.
If she says she’s living with her mother she will need proof of her address at her mothers.
The inspector will call to see her at her mothers.
Any correspondence will go to her mothers.
It’s a very uncomfortable way to live, looking over your shoulder all the time.
Have you considered applying for FIS?
You might be entitled to some.
Its based on your net income rather than gross and it’s payable for a year.
