    Hi lads,
Just wondering , I bought a Volkswagen Golf with 109,000 miles on it and the timing belt was done at 95,000 miles but it was done was back 1/05/12 so that’s just around 5 years ago. It’s only done around 14,000 since it was last changed so.
Car has a full service history and not due another service until 115,000 miles
Could anyone please tell me should I get it done? Cheers, I know vw do say 4 years or something like 60,000
    Thanks!

I would get it done, rubber deteriorates over time. Rather spend 350 now than if it snaps. Strange a tdi only doing 14,000 miles in 5 years

The other thing of note is they recommend an annual service on a car . With the low annual mileage for the last few years it could be years ago when the car was last serviced

I think I might just get it done, you’re right in saying if it snaps, it’s probably good bye engine. Not worth the risk! And for them to check the condition of the belt, they’ll probably need to take it off, and if you take it off you might aswell replace it haha.
    Thanks for your reply!

No no, the car has a full service history, done every year, last service was on 104,500 miles (168,153km) and next one isn’t due till 183,000km , that’s why I’m wondering should I just wait till the next service to get it done. Might not be worth the chance. The car was only doing small town milage, but it was probably a lot of stop start driving.

With that little mileage if u need to save some money just get the belt replaced... tensioner and pulley will be fine.

Get the belt and pump changed ASAP. Only use VW Genuine parts purchased using the reg or the chassis number off your car. Get a service kit also - Oil (VW) oil filter. air filter. Fuel filter. Pollen filter. Get your injector washers changed also as these cars can leak fuel in to the oil at this age. Best of luck. Always only use genuine oil and oil filter and fuel filter when servicing. You can buy the air filter and pollen filter (cabin filter) in the motor factors of you wish but the others must be genuine.

Maybe a set of tyres and a new battery as well?

Yeah I might just get the belt itself done, everything should be okay, can’t hear a rattle or nothing, I’ll just do the usual when the service comes around. Cheers for the reply

An 08 will have the bxe engine so id get the bottom end bearing at least inspected and for piece of mind id probably get them changed regardless.

If your worried about the belt destroying the engine then your going to want to get the bearings done too.
