The new broadcasting standards for DVB-UHD has been completed by the DVB steering group since last Monday.
Standards governing the broadcasts of Ultra HD TV have been completed by the steering board responsible for Digital Video Broadcasting.

Today it was announced that at the 87th meeting of the DVB Steering Board, important revisions and updates for three DVB specifications were approved. The development marks the completion of the current generation of specifications for Ultra High Definition Television – DVB UHD-1.

This new standard is compatible for all audio modes in Broadcast TV including object based & scene based audio.

I'm very happy with this progress being made for UHD as this news is very encouraging for consumers.

As the DVB organisation finalises the standards for UHD-1, aka 4k the Japanese are moving ahead with the DVB equivalent of UHD-2, 8K UHD Super Hi-Vision, using it own ISDB-S3 broadcast standard.
In 2018, Japanese public broadcaster NHK aims to roll out the ISDB-S3 standard used for the 8K transmissions. It plans to cover the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea in the new video format followed by the Olympics 2020 in Tokyo.

Terrestrial 4K requires DVB-T2/HEVC, with that the bitrates required are quiet high, 15-22 Mbps per channel -> 1-2 UHD channels per mux.

Only in France is there any real plans for terrestrial UHD. The French regulator is currently consulting on the future of DTT there, in their plans they propose to launch a pilot UHD test mux in urban areas, in available interleaved spectrum, about 2019.
