    Yes you would benifit by switching to an SSD. You'll want to use it as the system drive and not the second drive. 2.5in drives are all the same size.

    Thanks, might open up laptop and see if I can take out old drive and just slot in new SSD drive, might not need to buy caddy then.

    I believe they do actually come a several thicknesses
    edit: maybe I'm thinking of optical drives!

    They do, some HDD come in around 9mm thick. A lot of ssds come with a spacer, so that it can't move inside the laptop if there is a gap

    Ive put SSDs in older boxes before with SATA2 and even though the IOPs should help the slow as hell PCH meant negligible improvement.
