I am not getting this because I can't afford to buy a TV or Blu-ray player for UHD formats. But this release looks amazing for those into 4K releases like these ones.

The release date for them, coming from Amazon, is for the 18th of December 2017.

    http://comicbook.com/movies/2017/11/20/the-dark-knight-trilogy-4K-remasters-2017/

Christopher Nolan's acclaimed Batman trilogy premieres on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray just in time for Christmas.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises as individual 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays as well as an eight-disc 4K trilogy box set. The 4K remasters were personally overseen by Nolan, whose most recent films — including The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar and Dunkirk — will also see upgrades on the format, which "allows viewers to more accurately experience the filmmaker’s original vision, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors for a home entertainment viewing experience like never before."

I don't have a 4K Blu-ray player or TV, but I want these regardless! :pac:

The release date for these sets has now been updated in my OP.

They will be released a day early on the 18th of December as this is the UK & Irish release date. :)

Are the Blu-rays remastered as well or are they using the same old transfers? Begins and TDK could really do with the upgrade. Inception never looked great to me either.

Out of curiosity what grinds your gears with these versions on Blu Ray? I've not watched those films in some time on the format.

Begins is too soft and lacks detail, just a poor transfer. And Nolan let IMAX perform their DMR process on TDK's 35mm scenes and apparently never checked the result. The same print was used for the Blu-ray. Lots of edge enchantment and they messed up the colour correction as well. The 70mm scenes were untouched and as a result look like they from a different movie. Inception looks much better but still not great IMO.

I have them all on DVD and Blu-ray.

Will inevitably end up buying this. FML

The information for these new transfers for regular Blu-ray have not yet been verified. It appears that for the TDK Trilogy movies at least; going from back covers of US & Japanese UHD versions; Begins will have new transfers but TDK & TDKR won't have them.

I am not sure about Inception in the other collection though.

Specs here from the UK Edition (although not verified)

That's a shame. Hopefully it doesn't mean that the UHD version of TDK is taken from the same IMAX DMR print as the Blu-ray.

It's a pity they're not adding Dolby Atmos/DTS-X. I wonder when the collection will be up for preorder on Amazon UK? It's available for €130 here; has anyone used them before?

I have a 4k TV, but the announcement was mentioning 4K/HDR release ?
    Is it HDR aswell ?
I'm not that pushed about HDR - seems a bit of a fad.

    Multiple discs then ?
hmmm , wonder is it worth shelling out for a 4K HDR TV ....
nah, just got the 4k one ..

My God ... I just checked my TV specs (Samsung UE43KU6400U) and apparently is HDR already ! - and I never noticed :o

TDK Trilogy has 9 discs. The Nolan Collection has 21 discs for the US boxset or 3 discs for individual titles.

The contents for each title will include 1 UHD Blu-ray & 2 standard Blu-rays.

In answering your question; Yes they will have a ton of discs available but mostly standard Blu-rays. And yes all UHD discs will have HDR 10.

You could buy an Xbox One S if you wanted to save a bit of money.

Interesting, I would always think a standalone player would be better, but have been thinking of getting a games console too

    I'll do some research.

The TDK boxset was officially released from stores in Norway on Monday. I heard that sales were literally flying off the shelves with nearly every store selling them being sold out on the day of release with more stock coming soon for their customers. All I can say is wow. That is incredible news for movies of this caliber coming from Nolan.

I’m just going to buy these and I’ve only standard 1080p TV and Blu-Ray at the moment, but these are the kind of releases that will push people into upgrading their Equipment to UHD TV’s and Players. It’s a shame that Sony didn’t include a UHD Blu-Ray player in the PS4 Pro as I would have just needed a TV

It's still not available for preorder on Amazon.co.uk for some reason.

Yeah they appear to be very slow with the UK & Irish boxset. They're just waiting to get approval from WB or something.

They have a page up on it which displays an update notification via email which is something.

Early first impressions online say there are a lot of improvements in The Nolan Batman UHD set notably coming from the IMAX scenes. I would recommend you to watch the underground fight scene between Bale & Hardy in Rises as I heard that it looks exceptional in UHD enabled with HDR.

I heard some good things about the IMAX scenes from Dunkirk & Interstellar as well.

My fav scene in tdk is the joker interrogation scene. The lighting is just spectacular..of course the opening tracking shot is class to

The screenshots look great and they got the colour correction in TDK right this time. I wish they had remastered the Blu-rays as well. :(

Just got my set today. Fast postage it was not. No customs as deepdiscount post to Holland first then re post to final destination.. Just stuck on tdk uhd and looks great. I must have watched the blu Ray a hundred times and the uhd is a definite step up..

The Dark Knight is only 4.99 on iTunes at the moment for anyone who wants the new remastered version but doesn't have a 4k/UHD setup. It's SDR'd so the colour won't be quite right in 1080p (a bit yellowish), but it's closer to the intended look of the film than the Blu-ray ever was. Purchase includes the 4k HDR version but afaik it will only play on the latest Apple TV. Oh and it's 2.35:1 throughout, no changing aspect ratios.

Sadly it seems the Batman Begins UHD is from the same transfer used for the Blu-ray so while it's a big improvement it still looks rather poor compared to the sequels. And apparently it has some ghastly waxwork shots that would arrival the DVD randomly spread throughout the movie - seems to have been a mistake in the mastering. Film probably had a poor DCP to being with (from when Nolan was less concerned with digital tinkering) and Warners was too cheap to do a new transfer from the negatives.

I wouldn't bother with any version that didn't switch aspect ratio. Batman begins isn't anywhere as strong in image quality but it's better than the blu Ray..

At long last; Blu-ray.com has given a review of Batman Begins on UHD Blu-ray.

The author, Michael Reuben, has given the film a rating of 4.5 out of 5 which is really good.

The source material just isn't great for batman begins... If. It's 4.5 out of 5 for picture quality then the dark Knight is 8 out of 5

Watched Dunkirk last week.. It's possibly the most amazing thing I've watched in uhd..
