Unable to unlock or update my MI5

    Hi,
    I have tried to update my MI5 to MIUI 9 but I am unab;le to do so.
    I have tried to update it through the updater app by searching for updates(No update available) Loading it from internal storage (Unable to verify package) unzipping and loading from internal storage (No executable files contained within it)

    I did a factory reset and tried all the above steps again and still nothing.
    I loaded the Mi suite and tried to connect my phone to that. It said that I need to update my device in order for it to be recognised.
    I requested to unlock the bootloader on my phone and recieved confirmation I could however when I try to install the MI Unlock app on my laptop the file extracts to just loads of other files and none of them load or install

    My phone is sill on MIUI 7.3.8 as I could never update but now the phone is shutting off when the battery is at 30% I need to get onto a different ROM

    Any help is appreciated

    What is your full MIUI version, found in

    Settings - About Phone - MIUI Version.

    Post full string of letters.

    Check the rest of the above wiki on how to flash official roms.

    Mi PCsuite is out of date software and does not work on anything after marshmallow roms.

    As for MiFlashUnlock.exe (click on that in extracted folder), but will only work on official roms.

    Thats what it was.
    Had to unlock the bootloader and flash a new ROM.
    Finally got it figured out.
    For some reason everything I downloaded and extracted didn't have an executable files in it because I was unzipping with 7unzip or something. I downloaded winrar and it seemed to work then.

    Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
