Which wire stripper to get? Any recommendations?

Hi, does anyone have a recommendation for a wire stripper? I’ve always just used a sharp knife for stripping but would like something easier now. I’d only be using it once a month or so for the likes of putting a plug or socket on a lead.

On a similar note, does anyone know good tool review sites? Which.co.uk are good for household stuff, it would be nice to know of something similar for tools.

Knipex do a really nice one its shaped like a pistol great for tight areas like in a panel, expensive tho.

I used the above when I did panel wiring years ago its very fast. If you are stripping tough insulation like teflon or Tri-rated panel wire go with Bruthal's type.

Good recommendations but a little ott for someone wiring plug tops once a month.
I would recommend a small side cutters. With a little practice you will get good results and avoid snipping the cables.

Alternatively you can watch out for one like the screwfix one in ALDI.

Pretty much every sparks has done this but it is not considered best practice for a number of reasons. You can argue around in circles about the greater risk of damaging the conductor but one thing is for sure; when terminating a large volume of cables in a cabinet a wire stripper is far more efficient and consistent.

I had about 5000 cables that needed to be stripped and ferruled for a small production run.

Had cramps in my hands after it.

I played with this at the Messe trade show in Hanover. It isn’t cheap!!

Anyone terminting a multipar into a panel, with a snips/pliers is a butcher imo. The same sort if fella might chance the pliers to crimp 16mm^2 earth also. I have seen some scientist efforts...

Some reach a level of experience where they don't need to do anything right. A panel with 200 circuits to terminate, and it's the strippers all the way. Even if you think it makes someone look like a beginner.

Thanks folks for all the replies. And I don’t mind if it’s a bit ott either as it’s a present, for me, I like to get myself an Xmas tool every year. It’s not just for your household plugs & sockets, also for the heavier duty 3 phase plugs & sockets, and homemade 110v & 220v extension leads for outdoor work.
