Have a 03 Astra petrol and sometimes I can notice its losing power, but then it comes back perfect.

    What would this be

    Hand of God :D

Or perhaps a vacuum hose leak.
    Or something else.

Was it like this for years?
Can you elaborate on any work that has been done lately to the car?

only have it 6 months or so.

    Engine light is coming on

Sometimes the engine will flicker when it is chucking

I did notice ok there was very little coolant in it yesterday

    Timing belt/chain.?
I had an Almera that was losing power and it was a timing chain issue.

Coolant is separate issue, just top that up.

Get car scanned for error codes. The engine light means there is an issue with the car.

Could be any number of things . You can check the fault code yourself by putting your feet on the brake and accelerator at the same time and then turning the key in the ignition till the dash lights come on . Then watch how many times the engine management light flashes . Ten flashes equals zero , two flashes equals two and so on . It will be a four digit code . If you have more than one fault it will keep going through the codes until it reaches the first one again . You can then google the codes specific too your model .hope this helps

Is it definitely the engine light and not the emissions light? If emissions light - loose plug. Got it fixed for €90.

Could be EGR valve a common fault with the Astra G, i have change my 3 times since i have own the car,( but i have had it 8yrs) change it myself because its easy to do, you could take it out and clean it sometimes helps but usually only a temporary fix, you can read the fault code on the car yourself , look up paperclip test Astra G on utube, this how i get my fault codes my one a astra g 98, you might be able to do the pedal test on a 03.

As above, you would need the car looked at by a competent mechanic with access to a decent scantool to diagnose this problem.

I've a 05 Astra and last year had a similar problem - starting off from stationary there'd be a bit of a judder/chucking and then a slow build up to speed but no warning dashboard light. It was due a service within a couple of months so I stuck it out. When the service was due I mentioned it to the mechanic and he said he'd hook it up to the diagnostic machine.
When I got the car back it was fine again - just a quick adjustment he said.
It was an Opel dealer, by the way.
