Hi, can anyone advise me as to why photos that are backed up from android phone onto google photos delete from it when they are deleted from gallery on phone??
I thought once you back up your photos to google photos you could delete them from gallery on phone and the photo would remain in google photos?

^ according to that the photos should still remain in Google Photos.

Are you sure you're deleting the photos from your own device and not in the photos app?

You need to use the Clear space option on the phone to do that.

How is Google meant to know if you are trying to free up space vs deleting a photo you don't want on Google Photos anymore?

If it's less than 60 days the photos are still in the Bin and you can restore them too by the way :)

O right and Is the clear space option the one that comes up in google photos saying “free up space”?

Also I’ve checked the bin after I deleted photo and they haven’t been there.

Thanks I’m just very cautious about deleting the photos that way incase they still deleted from google photos. I was going to what it advises above but decided to only delete a few first and than is when I discovered that they also deleted out of google photos.

That's how I do it and it's never been a problem on many phones. Deleting them manually will of course delete them from the Google servers.
