Declaring car off the road

I want to sell my 2001 Honda CRV, but the tax is up at the end of the month. Assuming I won’t sell it before then, should I declare it off the road at the end of the month? (I don’t want to put three months tax into it) Would this put off prospective buyers? Thanks.

As soon as the vehicle ownership is changed, any existing unpaid tax will be written off and the new owner will pay motor tax beginning from the month it is registered in their name.

Obviously, Im sure it doesnt need to be said but do not give them the log book. Have them sign it and post it without delay, ideally the same day.

When I've been selling a car, I start by addressing and stamping the envelope to send to Shannon, and put all the docs in a folder of some sort with the cert at the front. Then it's all ready to go as soon as someone buys the car.

Last car I bought I arrived with stamped addressed envelope too, and seller was in fact happy to let me take the log book (though he shouldn't really). Had it in the postbox within the hour.

Do take a pic of the doc before sending away, and put your return address in top left corner of envelope just in case.

Finally, if you've an untaxed car on the road parked it can attract neighbours' attention/complaints , so you'll want to move it on quickly enough

Good idea! I’ll do that, thanks.
