thought it was the cable, so replaced it - but no joy - only since yesterday my iPod isn't being recognised by the laptop (but it is charging from the laptop) - have the most up-to-date version of iTunes..........any suggestions greatly appreciated

plugged in another iPod and laptop picked that up.........any idea how to purge the ipod (all online instructions advise hooking up to laptop..............but that's not an option)

If you have your music and apps backed up, why not factory reset it and try and connect to laptop? Alternatively have you access to a different computer to try?
