    Hi all,

Just wondering, would like some advice or tips on a trip. Single gay guy, early 30s and planning to head away somewhere for a week mid-December. Somewhere in southern Europe, ideally a bit of sun and just pleasant weather :)
I know Gran Canaria is an obvious one, been to Masopalomas before but I'd like somewhere a bit nicer and not just booze/beach thing.
Would love a few tips or recommendations from people please? Thanks!

first week of Jan fly to Gran Canaria for a week for less than €200 return with Ryanair. Stay in an airbnb or a self catering place on booking.com. Sorted.

If you want to avoid the beach/booze crowd you might want to look into the Adriatic region, still hugely popular but a slightly different crowd than Gran Canaria or the Greek islands.

Shouldn't be too cold, even in December!

Whereabouts would you recommend over there? Thanks

Not necessarily at all. Though one or two would be good :)

How far are you willing to travel? Ahm in the Philippines at the moment, it's very LGBT friendly, the weather is great, and there's loads of nature and culture beyond the beaches.

Just in and around Europe. It's a short notice type thing so not interested in going that far, but thanks.

I've visited the Balkans several times over the last number of years and I can say, without a doubt, that it is beautiful and has extremely vibrant nightlife HOWEVER what I will say was that I have not been to any of these places in December so I imagine winter is significantly quieter.

    I would recommend any of the following;
    -Italy
    Venice
    Trieste

    -Croatia
    Split
    Hvar (very gay friendly)
Dubrovnik (for a city that has almost a millennium of history it is slightly infuriating that most of the tourists are there for the f**king 'Game of Thrones' tour but it is a truly amazing city)

-Montenegro (not as gay friendly as Croatia with few, if any, dedicated gay venues but it is the most stunningly beautiful country I have ever visited, it's completely breathtaking)
    Tivat
    Budva

If you can give up some heat and the ocean, Madrid is great, very gay, and it has sunny, dry winters. Winter in Madrid is actually one of my favourite seasons. (In contrast to summer in Madrid, which is one of the worst.)

Poor lad will have the bo11ix frozen off him in Venice in December.

I'm actually headed to Madrid for three nights myself in a couple of weeks time. Never been before, anything in particular to recommend? I'll probably visit the Prado and the Reina Sofia (would probably have more interest in the latter if I only go to one) but otherwise have no plans other than wander around and see what happens. Was thinking of a Flamenco show but they're quite pricey, plus I'd wanna be sure I'd be getting "authentic" Flamenco and not just a tourist trap. I'm not going specifically for the gay scene but would be interested to know of particular places there worth visiting.

Apologies to the OP for hijacking his thread. :o

La Chuecca is the gay town it has it's own metro stop. Enjoy ;) super jealous. You should learn some basic Spanish. Unlike the Spanish coast, few people are competent English speakers.

The Med may be just a bit too cool in December. The season usually ends in late Oct. Mykonos is as gay as you can get but it's very pricey, very small and wouldn't be all that warm in December. If heat is not an issue, you could try Spain - Madrid, Barcelona or the Costa Del Sol.

I'd suggest the Canaries unless you want to go further afield, like Thailand. There's also the Caribbean but nearly all of it is pretty homophobic - Cancun in Mexico being an exception. Florida has lots of gay resorts and Miami had a huge gay culture. There's also Dubai but for a gay guy looking for a "scene" that's a real no no IMO.

But if you want to stay in Europe and want sun I'd say the Canaries are the only game in town.
