Self Employed qualifying for contributory pension

    for SELF EMPLOYED-
to qualify for Contrib pension you need to have 520 weeks (10 years) of PRSI contributions.
Obviously if you have passed the age of 66 you cant make any further contributions.
But if you reach 66 in (say) Dec 2017, and you are self employed, then you don't have to make a Tax Return or pay PRSI for 2017 until Oct 2018.
So if you don't have to pay the contributions until 2018, what is the position about getting credit for contributions for the period Jan 17 up to Dec 17? Can these contributions count towards the total of 520 weeks, even though they are not actually paid until after age 66?

Any Self Employed people know the answer to this one?
