Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi all I'm going to Krakow for the 1st time with my 16yro daughter in January.. I was wondering if I should book the tours when I get there or do it here online? Also regarding money we'll be staying for 3 nights and I was planning on bringing €400 for both of us would u think this is enough or should I bring more? I'm clueless as to wat to bring so any tips are well appreciated.. Thanks ðŸ˜

400 euro is loads, unless your daughter insists on eating in places like the Hard Rock Cafe, which charge 'fleece the tourist' prices. That said, don't miss a chocolatey something in E. Wedel.

There are places where the two of you will be able to have something simple, say a soup followed by chicken escalope with chips and a salad for under 15 euro for the two of you.

Pizza in a Pizza restaurant between 4 and 7 euro.
'Fancy' burger place (think GBH and the like): 4 or 5 euro a burger

You won't need to book in advance, there are plenty offices running tours. You can of course do it much cheaper yourself, but for convenience, take the tours to Auschwitz and the Wieliczka mines. It's even possible to do them both in one day, but if you'rte not stuck for time, I would advise against it as it is a long and draining day.

You should be able to get a bus tour to and from Auschwitz for no more than 35 euro each, possibly cheaper that time of year. Wieliczka about the same price and well worth it. I know at least one company does the two in the one day for about 60, but it's a long day as I said.

It will be cold. Bring a decent coat and a hat. They are very good at clearing streets etc, so there shouldn't be an issue with slipping if there is ice.

PM if you have any further questions. I've been there many many times.

    It's a lovely city.
Seek out little 'hidden places' like Cafe Zakatek, in one of the 'corners' of the main square. It's beside a bike rental place. https://www.facebook.com/cafezakatek/

From the outside, it looks like an alley you wouldn't want to go into, but some of the best places in Krakow are like that. Krakow is very very safe by the way. The locals do not put up with rowdyness/horseplay in public like we seem to do here.

Lovely city, you'll have a great time. I'm going for the third time in January with the OH (Christmas present also!).

As spurious has said it's possible to do both saltmines and Auchwitz in a day but would be very tiring and I'd also suggest splitting them into separate days if you can. I paid roughly €30 for each to get an all inclusive transport and guided tour from my hostel before and then they do pickups around Krakow so I'd say your accommodation can probably sort this out for you.

For food, I'd also recommend Milkbar Tomasza for a tasty and cheap lunch. It's based on old soviet era milk bars where they provided cheap filling lunches for builders and such (think a Polish version of a greasy spoon) and you get traditional Polish dishes for next to nothing. I think this one is actually run by an Irish guy as well. It's only a couple of minutes from the main square.

I'd recommend a walking tour also on your first morning there. They have different ones starting from the main square each day a few times throughout the day. It'll give you a good grounding of the city and you'll pick up a lot of info over 2 - 3 hours. These tours are generally free and based on tips.

By the way, don't be surprised when you see all the Christmas decorations still up around the city, in Krakow they generally put them up late in December and leave them up until early February!

This Irish pub mostly shows soccer, but no harm email them and ask them. At worst they might know where 'is' showing the rugby.

John Bull pub behind the Mariacki church might be worth a try too.

The Schindler museum is worth doing. Doing the saltmines in the evening. It's underground so youll use your day the best
