Replacing a 12ft standard gate with a 16ft mesh gate.
Plan is to replace 100/110meters of auld hedge and 4 mature beech trees (permit not needed it’s within distance) and widen the gateway which is opening onto a busy enough regional road.

Any manufacturer make 8ft mesh gates that properly close together without need to have a centre post? I don’t want a guntering job. I want a proper job that I can stick a pad lock on it. And sticking a “Lego” block in front of the gate as I do t use it very often. (Had a trailer robbed out that gate last year, the pricks cut the heavy chain with a grinder)

Also I’m going to concrete in the gateway. Sometimes I’d use it with a 1800G redrock tank , I think that would be the heaviest

So good hardcore base and 8 inch of concrete be ok?

For it to be sturdy, i'd suggest you have it supported in the centre by a drop-down on each gate(dropping into a decent bit of concrete natch).
TO make it thief-prroof you might have to have the gates modified by a decent welder who'll fabricate a locking tab on the drop-down on each gate so's you can fit a couple of locks.

Putting a “Lego” block type barrier in front of the gate.

Only using the padlock to stop gate being opened and cattle let out

Set the plastic from silage wrap into the concrete, a post will slide directly into this, bolt gate in each side, plastic tube from silage wrap can be cut flush with concrete, great job, other than that can get gates which bolt to each other, prob in local merchant, post in the plastic sleeve better IMO used it servers places including where feeding outdoors

Would a sliding gate suit your job better? One 16' with mesh would be easy opened. Hate double gates, too much work involved opening and closing them. Sliding gate would also be safer. Mesh swinging gate would catch the wind.

Seems a big job and expensive in comparison to hanging 2 gates

I wount open these gates only twice a year at most. As I have access from the yard into it also.

I’m building wing walls into the gap also at the one time is the plan also.

At present the 12ft opens into the field and when your mowing or topping you have to close the gate back the the RSJ anyway.

I've heard of a lot of incidents with sliding gates that would suggest other wise. Including a young relative that was crushed by a sliding gate that came off it's track.
