    Hi All,

I am looking for some suggestions on how to run gas central heating system efficiently and as cheaply as possible? I heat the water for 1 hour in the morning which does for the day and boost the heat for 1 hour as needed but the bills still seem a little high. The thermostat is usually set at 23 degrees i am wondering would be better to lower the thermostat and set the timer to run for an extra hour or 2?

    Thank you in advance.

23 degrees is a sauna! No thermostat in my house is set higher than 18 degrees.

    Some initial guidance here: https://www.seai.ie/sustainable-solutions/energy-saving-tips/

Your proposal to run longer is good, and lower the stat to 21 - you will achieve more consistent control

What is the nature of the house - insulated? draughty?

23 is indeed too high if the thermostat is reading the average room temperature which it might not. Depending on its position and other factors, one at 18 and another at 20 might give the same average room temperature.

The right setting in in my opinion (this time of year) is a setting that gives you comfortable living conditions when wearing two upper garments, not wasting heat trying to walk around the house in your underwear, or so cold that you have to put on your coat.
