VRT. Does the registered or VRT make a difference?

    Hi all

    Title should read:

VRT. Does the Year registered for VRT make a difference?

I had a look at the sticky, but requesting a bit of further info.

I'm about to purchase a UK import and will reg for VRT. I am unofficially told it will be €1,300 before 31st December and €1,000 in 2018.

Is there any way legally to avoid having to pay an extra €300 for having if registered in 2017? It's a bit irksome when it will be €300 less 6 weeks later.

Or do I just have to take this on the chin?

    Thanks

They factor in depreciation into the Open Market Selling Price of the car which VRT is a percentage of. They adjust the Open Market Selling Price on a monthly basis afaik. Why not just buy the car in January if you don't want to pay €300 now or wait another 6 or 12 months and it will be cheaper again because it's a year older? Once the car is brought into the country you have 30 days to register and VRT it.

  • Thanks Bazz, if its a monthly calculation thats seems fair enough. I'll see what they throw at me so. Thanks.

If you think the Open Market Selling Price is too high and you can find a similar car here for cheaper, it's worth going through the VRT appeal process.
