Moving to ireland from america and not sure how to get prescription medication

I will be moving to Ireland from the US for a year long postgraduate program. I have had PTSD for 4 years and am currently on Quetiapine for it. How should I go about getting a valid Irish prescription for this? I am not very educated on the Irish health care system so I am in need of some advice. Since I will be a student, I won't have a ton of disposable income and I'm worried about the cost of this medication. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you spoken to your own GP there? Also the college you attend should have information too, would imagine they communicate with the college you are coming to here..

You'll need to register with a GP and make an appointment. It'll cost around 50 euro or if you're entitled to a medical card it's free. Being a student from outside the eu i dont know if you'd get one but certainly look into it.
For the cost of the medication, pharmacies will always offer the generic brand version of your meds which will be considerably cheaper than your Quetiapine. Boots, a chain pharmacy will probably be cheaper still.

First, check online if it's available and legal here

You could consider bringing the drugs into the country with you. Leave them in original packaging and have letter from your US doc. Not sure how much of a supply would be considered "reasonable"

You can take a prescription written by your doctor with you. An Irish GP could also prescribe it. Cost to visit GP is €45-60. Ask a pharmacy how much it costs or google the cost in ireland.

whatever the cost in the US , it'll definitely be a lot cheaper here , you would need to bring your medical history and psychiatry reports when you visit the GP here otherwise he/ she may not be happy to prescribe this just on your own word.

It is legal and available here, i'm on it as it happens, year long script might not be something the US doc can do though..

Check if your college has a medical centre you might be able to avoid the doctor fees.
