Cheapest enigma box with dual sat & terrestrial tuners

I said I would start a thread here instead of taking the Saorview Connect thread off topic.

A few people have told me already that you can get reasonably cheap dual sat tuners but the downside is that they have only one terrestrial tuner.

If I am going to upgrade I think I need dual tuners for both sat & terrestrial.

But does that put me up in the price range of the vu duo2? With another box for upstairs I would be looking at €500.

    Thanks

Of course it puts the device up in price, about four times in price.

I presume you are talking about the Formuler F1 triple E2 box for £89.

You can add a usb dvb-t tuner which cost about a tenner. Then you'll have 4 tuners.

How does that affect the workings of the box? Is it like having a built in tuner? Will I still have a spare usb for the hard drive?

Will this box allow me to stream to a box upstairs?

I am limited to 2 satellite feeds.

The usb dvb-t stick will load the same as a static/pnp tuner. You have to install a driver for the usb dvb-t stick. This is done from the plugin menu on the box.

The hard drive can be loaded via the esata port.

There are also 2 usb outputs on the device.

    Cheers.

What advantages does the vu duo2 box give so over this?

Does that Formuler box have inbuilt wifi?

I haven't used either but from previous experience with other boxes the vu box's better hardware will mean smoother menus, less crashing and more stable recordings.

I wouldn't go for a high end box for all TVs. You could just get one decent box for your main TV that handles all the recording. Pretty much all TVs have DLNA now so you can play your recordings on the TV as long as it is connected to your network (even WiFi with a decent connection works well).

Also your TVs will very likely handle Saorview and possibly satellite/Freesat as well without the need for a box. Many models can also record to USB if needed.
It would all be in the specs

    My tvs are old.
To be honest if I could just get the combined 7 day epg with the ability to record saorview/satellite while watching same set up for the living room I wouldn't be bothered about upstairs.

The combi I have upstairs suits my limited needs of just having a back up tv to watch stuff.

The problem is that I have just 2 satellite feeds with one going to living room and the other upstairs.

I could change the dish setup but not a runner for now.

So that would leave me with just the 1 satellite feed for the living room which I could live with.

The biggest issue is having 1 switch change from sat to terrestrial and vice versa.

With young kids in the house I am already driven mad trying to find 1 remote. So 2 or 3 becomes hassle.

Is there any box to buy that will just have everything set up with saorview and the main british channels in one list? 7 day epg with series link.

The idea of boxes crashing or needing updating is not what I want to put up with.

That is why the freesat box is an option but then I could possibly have 3 remotes as the freesat remote won't control my hdmi splitter.

I have the Vu+ Duo2 box with a dual sat tuner and a dual terrestrial tuner. You need two satellite inputs (one for each tuner). The dual terrestrial tuner takes a single input and does the splitting internally. All channels are on a single list with 7 day EPG and recording available (I use an internal disk).

Also have a cheap(ish) box for the second TV. It streams any TV channel from the main box over home network. You do not need any satellite or terrestrial inputs on the second box, just a network connection (wifi may work but I had it wired with the home plugs). You can watch different channels on both TVs at the same time as long as there is a free tuner. You can also watch any recordings from the main box on the second box.

I was happy to pay the up front cost for the Duo2 box as I had been paying for the full Sky sub so the box paid for itself in under 5 months.
