Need help rehoming my amazing Bengal boy

    Hi guys,
So I have a two year old Bengal boy who as much as it saddens me due to me getting a job abroad I have to find a new home for. He's fully registered and I have everything he requires scratching posts, toys, bed, litter tray etc. and I'm not looking for any money for him so I know If I put an ad up on donedeal or such I would have no problem finding an owner for him. The problem with that is Bengals have requirements that your normal house cat doesn't and I know I will get a lot of "wow cool looking cat, I want it" potential owners who don't understand but will come to how bengals are a little different than other cats.

So I'm really determined to find him a home with an owner(s) who can provide him with a home where he will get the stimulation, care and love he requires. Bengals are amazing pets but are not for everyone even if they think they are. Understandably I'm going to be super picky about who I rehome him with but I know the right home is out there for him. If anyone would be interested or knows someone who might be and could meet his needs shoot me a pm.

    Thanks in advance.

edit: I tried to post some pics but it wouldn't let me due to me being a new user. I have pics on my imgur account if anyone would like to see I can send the link in pm I presume.

Did you contact the breeder you got him from? Most breeders have a contract to state the cat must be returned to them in the event of having to be rehomed!
I feel for you though, I couldn’t imagine having to give up my Bengal baby :(

What specific requirements do Bengals have that other cats do not have?

Sorry should have explained it a bit more in op.
Well they require more stimulation, play and company than your normal house cat. They are more intelligent than your normal house cat. They're happiness levels will drop considerably if these needs aren't being met. Ideally they like another cat for company but will still require play and stimulation. As long as they have sufficient play and attention though they can do fine without another cat. They are very talkative and aren't afraid to let you know if they want something so if you like a quiet home they probably aren't the best pet for you. They follow you round a lot and like to take interest in what your doing whether its washing the dishes or hanging up clothes in a wardrobe etc. They also have sensitive digestive systems so they require a different diet. Some people feed them on raw meat diets or part raw meat diets. This is a lot of work as you have to grind up fresh raw meat frequently. I feed mine on a grain free cat food which is more expensive than your normal cat food is. Some people feed theirs on food with grains but the breeder I got him off really stressed how important it is that their food is grain free. Its really not good for them to feed them the cheaper cat food brands. I buy applaws grain free food in 7.5kg bags from zooplus.ie. I think its around 45-50 euro for a 7.5kg bag which lasts quite a long time. They are also meant to be kept indoors. Mine like most is truly a house cat so he must be kept indoors at all times so you have to be super careful and aware of open windows etc. Basically the biggest thing is the company, stimulation and play which is essential. If you had a house cat before the rest are small adjustments. Like other house cats they will require an annual trip to vets.

So sorry for you OP. I can't imagine how hard it must be for you to have to re-home him. Some very interesting info above. He obviously gets on with other cats then? Just out of curiousity has he been around dogs?

Well since I got him he has just lived with my girlfriend and I. I imagine there would be a slight adjustment period where he would have to get used to other cats again but It wouldn't be a problem after he settled in and as they love play and company after a little while he would make friends :) . Dogs on the other hand I'm not sure about. I imagine it could go either way!

Beautiful looking cats, I can see why you want to make sure people don't just take him on an impulse, especially if they're more complicated to care for than your average cat.

Out of interest, why do they have to be kept indoors? I had always assumed cats that didn't get to go outdoors were usually losing out a little, but I don't really know TBH.

Well some bengals will be fine outdoors but mine wouldn't be as he's spent the first two years of his life indoors. There are pros and cons to both of course. The pros are somewhat obvious. Like you said some people might think they are losing out a little by not going outside. They would definitely burn more energy if they were allowed out etc.

Some of the cons are similar to your normal house cat as in higher chance of death/accident(traffic/wild animals). The big one for me is that they are quite expensive and where there is money to be made someone will try to make it so similar to expensive dog thefts there are people who would lift a Bengal to sell it.

Its up to the owner really but I would say its best to make a decision while they are young and stick with it. I think in urban areas they are much better suited to indoors and in rural areas you would have a bit more leeway. I think personality of the cat should play a part too in your decision. As I said my cat has been an indoor cat his entire life and he only ever had a close call once where I opened the window briefly at the front of our apartment, went into the kitchen for about 30 seconds, came back closed the window and about 10 seconds passed and he jumped up on the windowsill crying like crazy to get back in. There is a large balcony in my apartment and he will sit out there and sun himself and chirp at the birds and such.

I have two indoor cats. I was sort of against it in theory until I got my own. My first cat had to be indoors to begin with because we were in a top floor apartment.

After we moved to the countryside we had planned to make him an indoor+outdoor cat but people really speed on this road which makes us very nervous but even more than that he just shows no interest in going outside and either does cat number two.

They have a load of toys and scratching posts and climbing trees etc. When they want to hunt they hunt my dogs :D or flies or each other.

Not to toot my own horn but my cats are exceptionally healthy and happy and I have no guilt. I am thinking about making a large outdoor enclousure for them at some stage so they can be out in it for a couple of hours a day but that's more for me than them so I can throw open doors and windows in summer etc.

Anyways that's just my experience with indoor. Back to your Bengal OP. They're such beautiful cats. I'm fascinated. Can I ask what he weighs in at? I was meaning to ask SillyMangoX but I don't think moose is fully grown yet.

Yeh I agree once they have enough toys, scratching posts etc. all cats will be fine indoors. An outdoor enclosure is a great idea if you have the space. Ive seen some amazing ones. Ill weigh him at some stage today and let you know. Ive been giving him more treats then I should be lately due to the guilt of having to give him up :( so he's probably a little on the pudgy side at the minute :).

Yeah we've a huge amount of garden space and my partners brother is a carpenter so I'm hoping to wrangle him in to helping. I have big plans! :D

I think Builebeag or Sillymango would be good adopters for this Bengal adoptee - Builebeag is going to have a cat-patio, Sillymango needs a playmate for Moose

I soooo wish. But I asked my partner and he says no. :( We agreed we'd wait a good while before getting another pet as now isn't the best time so I suppose it's not really fair that I keep asking him and guilt tripping him! :o

I'd love him though. I'm fast becoming a major cat person.. and omg that picture of moose. Bengals are fab!

I’d love him too but one Bengal is destructive enough without adding a second into the mix, I would definitely be kicked out and disowned!!

I actually just saw a post up on Mooses breeders Facebook about rehoming a Bengal.. OP is he a Rakasta boy? He could be related to my moose!

I'd love a second cat but my cranky lady doesn't like anyone else on her territory. She just about tolerates the neighbours cat and that's only because they know each other since they were small.
OP please don't put him up on Donedeal though. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but I've heard too many horror stories about people getting cats and other small animals there and then using them for bait :(

I hope you find a new home for him soon. Bengal's are beautiful.

Would love to re-home him myself to keep my indoor only cat company. But Im in the middle of moving home shortly so the timing is not right, it will be hard enough re-settling one cat without adding another :D Hope you find the right person & home OP.
