Cat pooing outside litter box

    Hi

2 seven month out kittens, one male, one female. Born 3 days apart, always get on, grooming each other etc. Female dominant kitten.

In last week the male has pooped outside the litter box on 3 occasions. They tend to share the litter box but I have a second one if needed. They share everything, food bowl, water bowl and litter box. They male is still using the litter box but for some reason has started to not use it too.

They are happy kittens, well looked after and fed good food.

I will make the second litter tray available at all times now, they might get bored when I’m out working but it’s either inside for long periods or outside in this weather.

Anybody got any experience with this, possible causes and remedies?

    Appreciate any feedback.

Well for starters go to 3; the recommended number is cats +1 litter box. Second make sure you clean them daily and second one is placed where he poos atm. Third make sure you've used an appropriate enzymatic cleaner to remove any potential smells of the area.

Now, I don't know a whole lot about cats... but the only cats I have known to do this, are cats who wouldn't use their litterbox because it was already used. They would however happily do their number two's in a fresh litterbox.

+1 to the "number of cats +1" rule. We only have one cat at the moment, but had two with three boxes. Now she'll wee in one, walk across to the other one, and do a poo. Never do we find both in one tray.

So far results are positive with 2 trays available. Cleaning, emptying out 2 trays is a bit of a chore twice a day, let’s see how we go.

I keep them ina night, in a spare room. Trouble is the female starts meowing loudly and persistently around 5am every single morning, mainly demanding food.

This is slowly but surely doing my head in, there is a secure shed out the back, dry and has plenty of room for them. I don’t know how they’d respond to being in the shed at night but I need my sleep and will have to put them in the shed at night soon enough.

I'm now sure if there is a reason not to, but my cat has access to dry food all the time. Duriing the night, she often gets up for a snack and then back to bed.
