    Hi all,

I use an older Dell Optiplex 760 SFF PC as an office PC.
I just bought an ASUS VP228HE, LED, 21.5" monitor with built in speakers to use with it.

The ASUS has HDMI and VGA inputs. Obviously I'd like to use the HDMI as it is capable of 1 ms response time and with my eyesight not being great these days, I'd like to take advantage of the wider screen and anti glare etc.

My Dell has a DVI-I Output, a D-Sub output and a DisplayPort output.
I have an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro card occupying the PCI-E port, but have read that if this is the case, then the DisplayPort will NOT be connected.

I have Googled and see many cables and adapters to convert the DisplayPort to a female HDMI, but I'm unsure which I should get.

Can anyone suggest how to connect the two together for optimal screen display?

    Thanks.

What ports does the ATI card have? If the card has displayport then you just need a DisplayPort to HDMI cable which are readily available.

Hi, it has a DVI-I and S-Video output.

Use vga...the display port -> hdmi adapters for the dell computers require a specialised adapter that allows the dp signal to be passed through.. Your basic dp to hdmi adapter doesn't do any of these and thus cannot be used unless going from hdmi to dp.
I made this mistake when ordering a dell for missus's stepsister.
No adapter would work so I ended up just using the vga lead.

You can get an adapter called an active display port to hdmi converter which is what you require or indeed a display to hdmi cable but make sure that you specifiy which port is which..as in dp port on pc to hdmi port on monitor.
    have a read below.

Simply use a display port to hdmi cable or a dvi-i to hdmi cable, easily bought online or maplins.

Cheers, bought one of each as I'm unsure if the Display Port is connected at all inside and I'm not sure if the DVI-I will work with the version of HDMI on the monitor (it being a fairly old PC)

So, as said, I got one of each :)
