It's Richard Linklater's "spiritual sequel" to Dazed and Confused - and I loved it, every second of it. It's a fantastic film and one I really didn't want to end.

In a nutshell, it's about a group of baseball players in college but I saw it more as a homage to a lost generation of young lads whose bonding revolves around sport - all sport! Baseball, pool, basketball, darts, golf, table tennis.

Considering how we're losing so many would-be athletes to obesity these days, it really is a refreshing, nostalgic look at how things were back in the day.

Oh, and it's on Netflix :)

Already posted in the Netflix thread, but it was a big disappointment for me.

I love Dazed and Confused. I loved Boyhood.

This was just a mess though. None of the characters were likeable. Everything seemed so fake and forced, to the point that it was like a spoof of the genre.

It’s just about watchable but I’d not recommend it,no way. Go watch Freaks and Geeks if you want a quality nostalgia fix. This is pretty rubbish.

For a bit of balance, I enjoyed it. It's a while since I saw it. Love those movies where nothing really happens, just following characters going through their normal boring daily routine.

I liked it a lot at the time and still do, I think two of it's biggest problems was it was released after the massive critical awards hit of Boyhood and having the tag of "spiritual" sequel to Dazed and Confused, which gave it a almighty hype to live up too. I don't think it has the memorable characters of that film, it's lacked any strong female parts which made Dazed such a great film. But overall it's a very strong film with some laugh out funny moments. Wyatt Russell as the overage student was a stand out.

One of the things I appreciated most about it was the balls it had to break the rules and not really care. There was no structure and virtually no real plot I don't think. I found that interesting, and unique, and different to Dazed and Confused in the sense there's no bad guy. I could be wrong but I don't remember an antogonist in Everybody Wants Some. Every time you thought we saw one, you'd quickly warm to him. As I said, it was just a really nice, really sweet film I think.

I also appreciated how most of the main cast were athletes; not professionally obviously but you could tell for certain that they had some sporting ability prior to being cast I think.

There was an aesthetic and technical quality to the way they threw footballs, pitched baseballs, hit baseball bats and swung golf clubs. I'd be surprised if they were trained, given the scene in which they swing the golf club is about three seconds long, but could be very wrong.
