Wife and I are quite fond of those types of movies and just wondering what movies like the above people would recommend as a good movie night filler?

Most folks will suggest the usual suspect such as Seven, Memento, Old Boy, Primal Fear etc....

Actually have you seen The Usual Suspects?:D

Brilliant movie the usual suspects. The ending had me blown away.
Old boy I haven't heard of so I'll take a look at that.

Clue.

A lot more comedy than thriller but I always enjoyed it.

No way out, very good political thriller with Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman & Sean Young.

Watch the original Korean version...it has subtitles but don’t let that get in the way! The American remake is pants...

Malice, Fracture (how-done-it), L.A Confidential.

Insomnia. More of a wha you going to do about it than a who done it.

In recent times The Hateful Eight. Although it's a film people either love or hate

The 1962 version of Cape Fear, if you like black and white movies

Great suggesations, the main problem I have looking for movies like this is that I use IDMB and in general it's ok but you then find movies being rated low and turn out to be great little numbers.

Zodiac

LA Confidential

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Silence of the Lambs

The most tense scene I have experienced in a cinema is the opening sequence of Inglourious Basterds.

Where Major Hans Landa (the 'Jew Hunter') is interrogating Monsieur Lapadite, the French farmer. It is almost unbearable.

Mystic River
The Machinist
The Prestige
Mr. Brooks
Prisoners
Gone Girl

All great movies in the thriller realm.

Its not the most famous but i enjoyed The Hole with Thora Birch and Keira Knightly. It's quite dark and it has that wtf is going on here thing throughout.

Jagged Edge is well worth a watch (Jeff Bridges and Glen Close).

Presumed Innocent - did the who-done-it aspect very well at the time I thought

Has anyone re-watched Nighthawks with Sylvester Stallone/Rutger Hauer recently? I saw it pop up on Netflix a while ago and haven't seen it in years, I (vaguely) remember it fondly but I would have been pretty young when I saw it in the mid/late eighties so it might have aged terribly.

Under Suspicion, with the bonus of having Laura San Giacomo in it.

Saw it on ITV4 a couple of years ago, it's terrible! A total waste of Hauer in particular.

Ah that's a shame.

A Walk Among Tombstones (2014) Liam Neeson - outstanding adult thriller

And then we have the classics

Chinatown
The Parallax View
Blow Out
Once Upon A Time In America

And many more

How about some classic film noir?

Out of the Past
The Killers (1946, and Siegel's 1964 remake)
Crossfire
The Big Heat
Laura

A few "neo" noirs:
Night Moves (1975)
Devil in a Blue Dress
Point Blank (1967)

Point Blank is a great film. If you love a film which has style then see this, Philip Lathrops w-i-d-e composition cinematography and the set design is superb.

Identity (2003) Excellent!

Vacancy (2007)

Fracture (2007) Excellent!

Frailty (2001)

Shutter Island (2010) Excellent!

Id say Identity is my favourite.

The Gift starring Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton. Don't read anything about it before hand.

For the laughs - Without A Clue, High Anxiety, the aforementioned Murder by Death, The Cheap Detective and The Green Man which is a cracker from the mid 50s.

Decided to watch this tonight. It was that poor I had to turn it off half way through. No idea how this could be considered worth recommending.

To each their own I suppose , but just out of curiosity what did you find so poor about it ?

I found the story line uninteresting, I just didn’t care about what was happening.

Was reminded of the 1962 psychological thriller with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford called "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane."

Not really a "whodunnit" film. Watched it with my mother when I was a kid but it's only occurred to me now how similar it is to the film Misery.

I'm going to suggest The Prestige, always had a soft spot for it.

I'm always on the lookout for movies along the same lines as Zodiac, Gone baby gone and gone girl. Some good suggestions here to get stuck into over the next few weeks.

Prisoners was one of the best I've seen in recent years. It's a crime/drama/thriller about a missing kid that keeps you guessing who did it, trying to solve it yourself before the film finishes. Pretty dark and intense at times. Great performances and cinematography.

I really enjoyed The Experiment with Adrien Brody where people are set up in a prison for a psychological experiment and randomly assigned roles of guard and prisoner. The idea for the film came from the real life Stanford Prison experiment done in 1971.
