Is the WiFi turned on all the time? Can you see the icon in the taskbar?
PS. It was Windows 8 that was the despicable one. :-)

It was definitely turned on I brought the laptop to my mother's and it worked fine on the second time which is weird, where I was there should of been 5 or 6 wifi connections plus my dongel I'm back home now so will try it later , it did do about 5 updates that took ages while in my mother's , on another funny note my mobile couldn't connect to the dongel aswell but it could see it as a strong signal dongle works fine now I am home tho
