I've fitted them. As a fitter I always thought they were substandard, poor wire quality used in wiring looms, poor quality metal used in mounting brackets or cages & I always found the software to be glitchy compared to Pioneer/Alpine/Sony or whatever. In saying that, I never fitted one that didn't work.

I have a Mazda 6 too and considered the Ownice C500 which would be one of the better/best aftermarket Chinese units about but after reading countless reviews I decided not to bother. The radio doesn't support full RDS despite the spec sheet saying it does so you wont have station name.

You will also loose the steering wheel telephone buttons which is a big negative IMO however you'll have touch screen answering but I like the buttons on the steering wheel and the OE phone/Bluetooth works very well.

The sound quality isn't as good and apparently radio reception is quite poor unless your near the transmitter. Many people also complain of a constant low frequency hiss/static noise which can be heard when the volume is turned down lowish.

The Ownice unit is very OEM looking and has an Octa core processor and is supposedly very slick in its operation so If I were going for an aftermarket unit I would most likely go for it.

    Hi,

Would I be better off getting a double din adapter kit then just buying a regular double din pioneer, sony etc unit?

    Thanks

It's just my opinion, and I've never owned any of the Chinese stuff myself but if I was buying a unit for my own car I'd choose Pioneer everytime. I don't fit anymore but from a personal point of view, I always loved the Pioneer stuff.

I can't understand people buying these Cheap units. They are far, far away from the quality of an aftermarket unit from the leading head unit brands, and the crazy thing is apart from Navigation ( if the unit even has it ) you will buy a Pioneer, Alpine, Sony, Kenwood etc for the same kind of money.

It is funny how people have to have the latest iPhone or Samsung etc but when it comes to their cars throw in the cheapest thing they can get their mitts on once it has a screen!

So as said above I would recommend going for a decent brand. If Navigation is a factor you could go for a Car Play or Android Auto unit depending on your phone, this will sort that for you as your phone then mirrors to the stereo.

Also keep in mind a standard 2 DIN unit will more then likely fit your next car, all you lose out on is a facia and possibly a SW control adaptor.

For a regular double din unit Alpine or pioneer would be your best bet. You will pay more for the alpine but they are a notch above pioneer for sound quality and for sound adjustments and really all around quality.

If it's a dvd or media unit you are after id get an alpine or maybe a clarion. The pioneer dvd/ media units can be problematic and have glitches.

I wouldn't bother with kenwood or jvc, both are made by the same company and are low quality as far as mainstream units go.

Sony are ok but I don't find the tuner great on some of their newer head units. They have an overly sensitive af function and one that doesn't work correctly. At any slight loss in reception the af tends to cut in and instead of moving to the strongest frequency for the station you are listening to it changes to the next radio station with a strong signal which can be very annoying.

Some reviewers of some of their newer head units also found that they can't keep the memory correctly, or lose it altogether despite being wired correctly. This was mainly confined to single din dab units though.

    Hi folks,

So looking to upgrade the Mazda 6's standard head unit for this:

    https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Car-Stereo-DVD-Player-GPS-Navigation-Bluetooth-Radio-USB-for-Mazda-6-2008-2012/131729010975?hash=item1eaba9311f:g:Kp0AAOSwKtVWwpC2

    or this:

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Android-5-1-Quad-Core-Car-stereo-DVD-Player-Gps-Navigation-For-Mazda-6-2008-12/232145067684?hash=item360cec9ea4:g:OiQAAOSwT5xZS8D0

I know its probably not top quality stuff but its a 2009 car so not spending big bucks on a top of the range unit.

Anyone have any experience with these Chinese dvd players? Are there better units for around the same price?

Please no unfounded speculation or a friend of a friend said this or that. if you have one or had one please share your experience.

    :)

    Thanks all.
I have an Eonon head unit in my Mazda 6 since last Christmas.
    Pros
Easy enough to fit, looks factory fitted, loads of memory or space for music , connects to phone (hands free), download maps for sat nav, records and/or live play dash cam, reverse camera just plugs in and go and it can read engine diagnostics via Bluetooth and an EML gadget.
    Cons
Slow enough to boot up 1 or 2 minutes, wont boot up at least once every 2 weeks (easy fix switch car off and wait a minute before starting again-pain in the hole though) and the standard radio is better at remembering channels if you are going across the country otherwise its fine.
