This is not a bargain. Firefox is open source and has always been free.

Well on Hotukdeals - people appreciated the notice so I thought it would be the same here :)

Bargain doesn't just mean a price reduction.

Not a bargain alert but thanks for reminding me to check out Quantum

People on HUKD appreciate it when they're told about a tin of beans on sale in a shop in Northern Scotland and lots of people are thanks whores.

It's a free Platform yesterday and a free Platform, now updated, today.

*Typing this from Firefox - Personally I don't like the home button being moved to the left nor the fact the URL bar is nowhere near it but hey ho it's free after all.

You can move all that around using the "customise" option

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

It was a free platform yesterday (which wasn't very good) and it's a free platform today - which is better than its competitors in some respects.

Letting people know about a lacklustre free product is not a bargain alert. Letting people know about a good free product can be.

Updated itself on Ubuntu last night. Much smoother. Firefox 56 was starting to do my head in, addons crashing and it was eating ram.

I've done that, thanks. It seems that had a box between it called "Flexible Space". Well flex yourself out of the way. :pac:

Seems okay, few of my extensions are not compatible and I miss the refresh arrow to the right of the URL bar, that is something I use a lot

I had firefox & got on well with it.
then they upgraded to quantum & I was completely lost I could not even find my favourites.
I am now gone away from firefox altogether & now use Microsoft edge which suits me fine.

Edge has a few quirks I don't like - no F11 full screen option, can't use add-ons when in incognito mode etc.

But yeah - I prefer Edge over Chrome, especially when running on weedy Win10 tablet processors.

I abandoned FF some time ago as what was once quick and light had become a true "CPU Useage 100%" monster and went over to Chrome (while still using Opera 12.18 of course!).
So I'll give this a look.

    edit - nah it's still ****.

I have a new laptop - Toshiba Satellite, less than 6 months old - and it's driving me NUTS. To the point where I was going to bring it back to the retailer and see if I could get a refund/replacement.

But I can never be sure what the problem is - is it my broadband? a virus? (don't think so) the browser? (I've tried Firefox and Chrome, each as bad as the other). I don't have a whole pile of stuff installed or stored, so surely shouldn't be a memory thing.

Pages hang, the whole thing crashes, everything takes an age, it's like being back in the land of dial-up. For a machine that cost plenty, if feels like a gigantic mistake :(

I am hoping beyond hope that this new browser (of which I'd never heard) will be the end of my problems!

What processor do you have in it? If it's an i3 or higher then you shouldn't be having such slowdowns on the system (especially if it's just the internet).

The "new" browser is just Firefox - but it's undergone a major refresh vs the versions of the past.

I'd run some malware/adware cleaners if the system is new and it's taking an age to go onto webpages. Alternatively (or in addition) you can reset Windows and clean out all the clutter - best to backup your key documents beforehand though. Install adblockplus to help prevent malware/adware getting installed in the first place and use Spybot to clean your system.

I'm going to lock this before it turns a full tech thread. People are now aware of Quantum now anyway.

The Compute & technology is much better suited.
