A rough break down of cost would be appreciated. I'm looking at doing this when I start working again soon. I also wear glasses... All I need is corrective lenses to make my eye sight 20/20 am I right?
Is there any age and height restrictions ? I'm 35 and 5ft10.... I'm sorry I didn't try go for this 5 years ago when I had a similar enthusiasm going on. Now I feel the time is more then right to at least dig into this while I am still relatively young.

I would like to do the PPL part time if I can also, working around a day job.

NFC will give you the most expensive PPL in the British Isles, maybe even in whole Europe. The prices quoted don't include landing fees too.. We have had quite a few discussions about this, search is your friend. Go to IAA website for a list of approved training organizations and start calling them.

Realistically your PPL at NFC will cost you at around 13-14k, you should be able to do it for around 10 or even less if you stay out of Weston

we cant give you medical advice, we don't know your situation. You will need to take out class 2 medical, look up a list of AME's on IAA web site

as long as you're older than 17... 5ft10 is a fairly average height, will not be a concern for you

10k is about what it cost me over the last year or so in a club environment.

What sort of job opportunities would you have with a PPL?

In reality, zero. In order to be receive money to fly you’ll need a CPL.

How hard is it to pass a PPL as a first step? I know I'm probably dreaming here but I'd be serious about getting the PPL for sure. 2018 I wanna do it.

a standalone PPL literally means you can't do any work with it, however there was a recent change allowing PPL holders to get a flight instructor's rating and teach other students in a club environment.

as regards how hard it is to pass it - really what you put in is what you get out. If you prepare well, if you have a decent instructor and if you are calm under pressure, it might as well be a breeze. Generally when students are signed off for skills test, instructors are happy that they are capable of passing the skills test, they know what they need to know and have demonstrated their ability. Once you're signed off it really is up to you to keep calm and don't screw up!

Remember that there is a theory element as well, you need to pass theory exams in 9 subjects. Some people take them for granted and only start looking at the books with ground school and exam dates approaching. Don't be that student, this is not like a drivers theory, make no mistake..

But as always, before you do anything, before you spend any money whatsoever, go and do your class 2 medical! cannot stress this enough!

any chance of the moderators making a PPL sticky, as we keep seeing the same basic questions coming up?
